Moderation Tools

Q: What are moderation tools? How do I use them?

A: If you aren't a moderator of any boards, this QA isn't for you! This one's just for certain people:

  • LMods (and above)
  • Local clan moderators

If you belong to one of these two groups, hopefully this will shed some light onto how to effectively moderate your board.

Q: I want to do [X] with the threads in my board, how can I do it?

A: Both thread and post moderation works on a SELECTION -> ACTION basis. That is, you select some items, and you then tell the forum the action you want it to take with those items. In the case of threads, you can select threads like this:

Selecting Threads

Just by ticking the boxes on the far right, you will have selected those threads. If you navigate to other pages, close the forum site, or even exit and reenter your browser, these threads will still be selected. If you want to deselect threads, you need to either untick them or choose 'Deselect All Threads' from the actions dropdown which we'll look at next.

Great, but how do we actually do stuff? After you select the threads you want, you need to find the action dropdown and choose an action, like this:

Performing Thread Actions

Click on the dropdown menu here (its at the bottom of the page), and select the action you want to take on your selection. Many of these are simple (Delete Threads will just, unsurprisingly, delete your selected threads), however a few are more complicated, such as Merge and Move. I'll talk about all of these options next.

(At the bottom you can also see the 'Deselect All Threads' option I mentioned in the previous section)

Q: I want to do [X] with posts in a thread, how can I do it?

A: Just like thread moderation, post moderation works on a SELECTION -> ACTION basis. In fact, the GUI is pretty much exactly the same: selection boxes on the right and an action dropdown at the bottom right of the page.

Selecting Posts

Ticking these boxes on the right will select the posts. With selected posts, you can perform a variety of actions on them. If you navigate to other pages, close the forum site, or even exit and reenter your browser, these posts will still be selected. If you want to deselect posts, you need to either untick them or choose 'Deselect All Posts' from the actions dropdown which we'll look at next.

But how do we do things with our selection? Like this:

Performing Post Actions

Click on the dropdown menu here (its at the bottom of the page), and select the action you want to take on your selection. Many of these are simple (Delete Posts will just, unsurprisingly, delete your selected posts), however a few are more complicated, such as Merge and Move. I'll talk about all of these options next.

(At the bottom you can also see the 'Deselect All Posts' option I mentioned in the previous section).
