Do you think kids read enough these days?
I don't want to say kids don't read ENOUGH as if there is some set limit that should be read, I just don't get why kids don't read. I mean, I'm 15, going to be a softmore this year, and I'm one of like 5 guys in my grade who actually reads with out being forced to. And I'm not just saying Harry potter. Congrats you read a 300 page "novel" that has a movie to go with it. No, I mean like real books.
Personally I enjoy Steven King and Dean Koontz. I just got done reading Kings, "Under the Dome". Great book, BIG book. 1000 pages I believe. But it's almost like a book of that size scares kids. It's like a set feeling to just hate reading. I don't want to say "just try it you'll like it" because that's not true. I'm sure some people just don't like to read. But honestly, why doesn't anybody read anymore. And it's not even just kids, more adults don't read, there might be some statistic some where to prove that, but look around, no one reads as much as before. And maybe that's because of all this new technology. But books will never go away. Too much history.
Reading has it's advantages. For one thing, you can understand what I'm saying. "not ny of dis sht"
Also, for those of you that do read, name some of your favorite authors, with examples of books and why you liked them.
Lastly, I hope all this wasn't too much for some of you kids to read, please discuss what I said, and also share some of your favorite authors.

Thought I should make this known. I'm not against reading from tablets, computers or things electronic. I'm simply saying kids don't seem to read enough in general.

I enjoy reading, but i'm very picky with my books.

Besides, everybody (including the media) is teaching kids less and less about books.
Kids don't want to be the very best they can be. It's something called Motiviation and Self-Value that would make them read books.
It's sad, but most of the younger generation is on the Internet, as least, that's what it seems to me...

I know what you mean, most authors I read aside from Knootz and King usually suck in my opinion. But occasionally I do find some stray books from random authors that I liked. But really I like Fiction/Realistic Fiction, and usually only that.
Kids dont read any more because of school. They read so much in school that it gives them headaches every day(well it gives me headaches) and reading would be the last thing on there mind. My parents force me to read 50 pages a day to play games oand use the computer :l.

What a worthless attempt to get a kid to read. That's only going to have a kid hate reading more. Also you argument saying that kids don't want to read because of school is irrelevant. If you would have read my post, I too go to school. I enjoy reading and it does not make my head hurt.
I love to read a good book every now and then.

But schools shove it down my throat so often that i find myself reading less and less.
Reading a book out of pure entertainment is a waste of time. Anybody who would read instead of play xbox or watch porn is stupid. If the book actually taught you something valuable then maybe, but still.

Books are homosex.

That can be said about doing anything, movies don't teach you anything valuable but people still watch them for entertainment. It's only a waste of time if you didn't enjoy it.

I would read more if I knew what I liked from a book.
I love reading. I've been able to read since I was oh, about 4 or 5 years old. In my school almost no1 ever reads anything unless they have to and they still usually don't and xIMDx, you are so stupid.... Playing xBox or computer or reading or playing PS3 or masturbating to porn is all a waste of time. Going outside, having fun with your friends in the real world or interacting with real people is what you should do. Reading is meant really for gaining information like in News Papers, the internet news, or whatever. Pleasure reading is usually done when some1 can't get to sleep one night and then they find its 4:00 a.m and have finished what they read in 5 hours. Playing xbox just gets you fat as shit if that's all you do. Thank you and please come again.
