It's pretty much impossible for evolution to have not happened: Creatures that mutate for the better --> survive better --> higher chance to reproduce (due to higher chance of living) --> new creatures take over due to old ones not being able to survive as well --> evolution has happened.
To see how and where we evolved from, we need to see how similar our DNA is (which is pretty simple) and we can see how related each species are and where the common ancestor is to see were they all evolved from
