Clan League 2018

It's finally here! sorry! Gather your clan mates, wake up the inactive and get ready for Clan League 2018!
Time is now for your clan to rise up and usurp the belt from Alpha.
Will the conquest of Alpha be over? Or will they reign victorious for another year?

Rules for participation are as follows:

•Anyone found to be in multiple rosters on alternate accounts will be punished. This includes being in several accounts in one roster
•Failure to organise matches will result in disqualification for both clans, unless one clan has been shown to be making more effort.*
•Reporting match scores should include the score clearly, a list of participants and all replays.

*Not including group phase*

This year we're doing a dual phase tournament, this means a group stage and a final stage.

Within your groups you will do a round robin, fighting each clan twice.
The top two clans per group will advance to the final stage, except for the two clans with the least points.
This brings 27 clans down to 16 for the final knockout stage.
The final stage will be a standard single elimination, with a reverse gradient seed (eg starting with 1st vs 16th, 2nd vs 15th, 3rd vs 14th and so on.)

The rules for the quarter finals phase are as follows:
  • A single player can play no more than 3 different modes.
  • A single player can play no more than 5 matches in total.
  • A single player can play no more than 3 matches per mod.
  • Deadline for the quarter finals will be October 7th.
  • 5 Different modes, 5 matches each round, best of 25 (or first to 13).

Modes:

Lenshu3ng.tbm
Taekkyon.tbm
judofrac.tbm
aikidobigdojo.tbm
boxshu_mushu_v3.tbm

I like the format, the only thing that I would change is allow only the active official clans to play.

all those five clans would have an amazing league for sure.
format would be already better without the unnecessary second round.

Better than have ~500 random clans around the community.

its just bullshit because almost every group has some random clan thats not even active and its impossible to finish your games
I like the idea of a group stage in principle. It's a good way to sort out seeding. But it should not have been applied to Clan League. Moreso, the way in which this was presented was poorly executed. You're facing two clans in your group...twice against each, mind you. And in most cases, these four matches were done simultaneously. It's particularly disastrous to organize (and log) these matches, and even more confusing and difficult if you are paired with clans that are either not fully active (which isn't necessarily a problem, but some clans have died out as this event started) or are not the most proficient in English, Russian, or Portuguese (the main demographic of TB).

We're almost in September and there isn't a main bracket yet. This event has been unnecessarily extended. In these past two weeks, two rounds could have been completed via the traditional route. Fair seeding was a larger emphasis this year, and that's fine, but when the event is coordinated later than usual during a time when activity takes a drop...the quick 'random' assortment of clans in years past would have been more greatly appreciated by those with time constraints.

This group stage process has been unorganized, inefficient, and extremely tedious on both the clans' end and I'm sure for the organizers who will need to sort through a ridiculous amount of logs as a result.

The ES can experiment all they want on their own originally drawn-up event props(or in the case of this gen of ES, purely recycling popular events) but don't adjust a format that has been effective and proven. Usually people look at the changes and diversification of prizes and mods. And play the rounds that they need to play in an orderly fashion. You're making us all take an additional step here.

When Erth created ES, there was an emphasis on creative thinking to make events the community would enjoy. With fewer responsibilities in moderation, events would be the focal point of the ES. Standards for recruitment have dropped since then, and the disorganized event coordination has shown in the past few years. Half of the the ES roster would not meet the qualifications to be a trial GM because they don't have the autonomy. ES is just a glorified Wapow Event Team now.

i did something out of morbid curiosity and because i have hardon on spreadsheets

...

it seems there was on average one war(both rounds) per group, Groups E and I had to ruin it but H saved the day.
I wasn't that far off with the 5 active clans if we take ducks' results from activity thread,
in any case this sheet has no meaning, take it as you will i just wanted to see how many wars were actually played because looking through this thread is a pain.
As for the format, i like the idea but my opinion is close to Gentleman's, you took complex format and made it even more convoluted, i assume most people just lost interest along the way, one clan decided dying was the better way out.
This format would have been fine with enough thinking and planning put into it. It just feels like ES team tried to make something different, then they realised that they were late to present the event so it was extremely rushed and hardly discussed.

It looks like ES team is just getting bigger, but the quality of event planning is somehow getting worse.
