GMs Are Recruiting

Too flashy? Nah. Everyone loves rainbows.
The time has come again to recruit a new wave of Gamemasters! We're looking for new people to step up and become the smiling face of Nabi Studios and Toribash.

With the fancy teal names on the forums and dark red names in-game, there's no question that the GMs stand out. But what to these people do, besides look dashing and important? The GMs are the guys in charge of hosting nearly all of the events you see around Toribash. From all the in-game events like GM Tourneys and hotseats, to the forum-based design events like the recent Animal Spirit, this is what the GMs do to help keep the game interesting and exciting for everyone playing it.

What does the job entail?

The GM job is, first and foremost, about hosting events and keeping the community active and entertained. This is done in a variety of ways. The most common thing we do is host in-game tournaments for people to compete in and win prizes. We also host a lot of forum-based competitions where people can showcase other skills and test their abilities against the rest of the community. The GMs are also the primary moderators of everything in-game. We go around and make sure everything is running smoothly, we make sure the public servers are interesting and functional, and we take care of any trolls or other nuisances which might be making the game less fun for people.

What does it take to be a GM?

The absolute most important aspect for a GM is creativity. We are constantly looking for new ways to host events and new types of things to do for the players. The most creative people, the ones who can consistently come up with exciting things to present to the community are the ones we want to have on the team working with us to keep things fresh and fun. The best kind of GM is somebody who is not only able to plan and manage events, but who loves playing the game themselves as well. The more active and involved you are with the community, the better you'll do as a GM.

Why be a GM?

Being a GM is one of the best and most fun ways to help the community. GMs get a great sense of satisfaction from seeing their work being a direct influence on how things work in the community and keeping things lively and entertaining. The GMs are all people who have been with the community for some time and have a strong attachment to it, and we want to see it grow and thrive. Being able to have a hand in that is one of the most satisfying things you can do for a community you love.

Do the GMs get paid for their work?

Yes! In the past, the GMs have been exclusively volunteers offering their time and effort for nothing in return. Recently though, it was decided that they deserve to be recognized and compensated for their time. Just last week we introduced a brand new rewards system for the GM that allows them to earn more points for doing their job well. These points can be used on anything from items to customize their toris in-game to fancy forum stuff like animated avatars and unique usertitles. Every GM gets to participate in this system as a way for us to thank them for all of their hard work in the community.

How do I sign up?

Applying to be a GM is easy. You can send a free-form application to any current member of the team. Your application is required to include your timezone, but everything else is completely up to you, so you can tell us whatever you think will help show us that you would be a good addition to the team. The application will then be discussed among the GMs, and if we think you could make a difference, you'll get your chance to prove yourself as a trial GM. Do well there, and you'll soon become a full-fledged member of the GM team.
