The fighting was finally done. I, Sledgren, came out of my hiding spot and stared up at the sky. Through the thick smog I could barely gaze upon the sun, which, in hindsight, was probably a good thing. But from the position of the sun, I could tell it was in the afternoon. After 2 years of heavy nuclear warfare with every country fighting in it, millions, hell probably even billions had died. The war had finally came to an end, and the entire time it was hard to tell who was bombing who, all I know is that there was a lot of shrieking and explosions. No one had won. Not even those who had survived. I had nothing left, say for the clothes on my back. The war seemed meaningless to me now, nothing but countries fighting over sections of land, just another piece of history. Yet it had destroyed my world, and everything in it that I had loved. As I was one of the luckier people to survive, there must have been a meaning for it. I, such an average person, surviving this war to end all wars. This war, to seemingly end all of humanity. I knew I had to find other survivors. Maybe someone out there would be willing to give me some food and shelter. My little bomb shack would be useless now that the bombs had stopped dropping. I couldn't see a thing and there was nothing left in it. So I set out to find other survivors like myself.

Apparently there was a group of travelers near my location. The only way I had known this was by my old radio that had managed to pick up a local signal. The only thing that I owned that was able to work. I quickly set out for the destination described to me over the radio and as I approached the spot I saw them. There was a group of 6, and they were deep in their conversation. I took a step towards them but then I stopped myself before I went any further. They had weapons, good clothes that were almost armor-like, and lots of supplies. If I had walked up to them with only my tattered clothing, they would just laugh at me, or worse, ignore me. I shrugged off my thoughts and walked up to them. I mean, I had no other choice. As I approached I said hello and asked if they could help me out, or give me any information. They took one look at me, and laughed. I already knew this was going to happen, but it was worth a shot. They just ignored me after that, so I started to walk away. But as I turned around I heard someone whisper, “hey”, I turned back to see one of the members staring at me through his emotionless mask. He gave me his name, MrUnicorn, and told me that this city was a wasteland. He told me that I needed to go out and join a group. There were many animals and other things in this world that would hunt me down. So he gave me some food and some other supplies and left. I didn't even have time to say thank you. But I knew what this meant, so I quickly left that area and set out. I found a decent looking bag on the side of a road and stored my new items in it. I was then on my way, in search of those who would help me to survive.

After a few days of travelling and hiding from the mutated and terrible animals. I had finally run into someone else. A man who was walking aimlessly as well. His name, was Twat. We quickly befriended, and decided to traveled together. Neither of us knew what the path that was laid before us was going to be like. But we didn't care. Along our journey we found others, some decided to continue with us on our journey, and some didn't. We, in time, had built up a strong group and a great reputation. But we needed a name, so Twat and I had a discussion and we decided on the perfect name. The Bomb Squad, ironic in a sense yet respecting and keeping the disaster of it all in our memories. This group, with Twat and I in charge, there was nothing that could stand in our way. We are going to rebuild this world, and we are going to do it our way.
