Xbox 360 Problem
Not sure if this is the place to make a thread about this specific problem, but here goes nothin.

I am fixing a friends Xbox 360. It is one of the first ones that came out, or the older ones. It had the three red rings of death, so im attempting to fix it. I tried the penny trick, took it all apart and replaced the thermal heatsinks with pennies. (two per chip, wrapped in black electrical tape.)

Although I used high temperature RTV silocone to keep the pennies wrapped in black electrical tape in place. I put it all back together no problem, screwes in the EXACT same place as the factory installed them.
BUT I ran into a problem.

For some reason, when I start it, the FAN overkills itself. But the Xbox startup logo appears for about a half of a second and it shuts itself off.
the fan sounds like it revs up REALLY fast and it just dies.
Btw, it is Nick96's 360

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

Sounds like its borken.

Try placing it next to a ventilation system. Or anything that keeps it cool.

Also, does it give an error? like (xbox 360 has failed to respond because of xxxxxxxx/ error xxxx) anyways. Goodluck.

No, it doesnt. before it can say anything on the TV it dies. And I took a hair-dried on cold air, and tried pushing air into it starting it up, did the same thing. pointed it away so it would pull air out of it and that didnt work either. I think the fan is just fucked.

Or the replacement heatsinks aren't sufficient and that makes the fan go too fast, I've used other methods but I've not heard about this "penny" method.

Afaik, unless it ONLY JUST got RRoD, its unfixable, unless you actually replace both the CPU and GPU, as they have fried.

Replacing the heatsinks works if it has started to overheat, but hasnt quite melted the solder holding everything on the CPU and GPU together.

Though i might be wrong, the quickest fix is to buy a new xbox 360, which has a jasper chip instead, as the chances of RRoD have reduced drastically.

Hope i helped
Do what I did and throw it out a window.

You can get a new one cheap in the sales.

That's if none of the tricks help.

well see it does this new thing now.
I started it up, because I replaced a different silicone and it all starts up, but the fans eventually overkill theirselves and it dies.
