Manxie, In the transparency option you have refraction. Play with that to make the glass more realistic
Did you not read, there's no transparency just high reflectance.
Also someone said something about metaballs, I tried that but it just made a giant sphere, any idea why?

Well play with it's settings. Place some balls randomly add them to a metaball and they'll smoothen it out

lower your exposure

also I'd render it in multiple passes, one for the color, the reflection, the occlusion, shadow passes, specularity. that way you can tweak the output in gimp/shop and correct the rightness levels for each pass w/o rerendering everything

might want to try making it sharp :>

cut it down the middle with the knife tool (down the middle on the thin edge) then size up the middle line (should create a nice sharp edge)

that's the easiest way, not that it provides the best results, but it's quick.
