This thread's purpose is to gather more thoughts on Matchmaking and how it should work.
Toribash development team is currently focused on making the Matchmaking system work as you would expect a proper matchmaking to, and we would like to make sure our current plans fit community's desires and views on it. Any thoughts and new ideas are welcome and will be considered.
What is currently planned to be implemented:
Ranked - a "first to 3" duel
No mod choice - players get to fight in randomly selected mods (mod changes each fight). Draft mod list: aikidobigdojo.tbm, taekkyon.tbm, lenshu3ng.tbm (or rk-mma.tbm), judofrac.tbm
Brown belt restriction
Seasonal rank resets (3 months for season length)
No daily rank 1 reward. Instead, weekly rewards for top n players or one-time reward at the end of the season.
Matchmaking being the only way to rank up.
Unranked - a "first to 2" duel
Pick the mod group to play
No belt restriction
We also plan to disable daily rank 1 rewards for now as it has turned into "farm rank without getting caught" fest.
It doesn't mean that everybody with top ranks farmed their way up, but Event Squad members have to deal with rank-related reports on almost a daily basis. We may still reward top players in some way.

I agree with fistoflife these small update honestly bring nothing to the game in general. I bet you most of us don't even have flames or even objects on. If this game wants to be successful something big does have to happen like what firstoflife said. Without a big implementation this game will slowly and surely die.
I agree with easydubs too it would be nice to have a fund/donations by the community to help promote this game as you all know this game like has like no promoton at all. In my opinion the only way to revive and or make this game have atleast 2000-5000 active people at a time is to make the game more competitive and interesting. Cause right now u hop into tb and try to find an interesting lobby there's literally none, then u exit out of tb right away since there nothing to play for and there's no interesting lobbies. Also making this game more competitive will make the older players stay and let beginners/noobs to look at these older players and be like "I want to be this good!". I also I have to admit the tutorials are old af for beginners maybe add new tutorials which actually help. Like a tutorial in each of the competitive and how to play it.
Now back into matchmaking: it would be nice to have pools/tiers as they will distinguish the skills of each player. And each pool/tier will have there own ranking system. And the top 20 people in each tier 1, tier 2, tier 3, etc at the end of the season have a full out tournament. And the top 5 or 10 at the end of the tournament will move on to the next tier or something. And if your already at the final tier (the top tier) and u get top 5 or 10 at the end of the season you will be automatically be registered in a year end tournament in December where the top qualified players in the top tier face off in an ultimate tournament to find the best plyer for the year. And then after the december tournament every player will have a global rank which shows there actual tb rank for that year. So like winner of ultimate year end tournament will be #1, second place #2, ultimate year end tournament people gets ranked after, then top tier people that didn't make year end tournament gets ranked, then tier 2, etc. This way you will perfectly see what your actual tb rank is.
And in addition when you face opponent you and ur opponent can decide what competitive mod you two want to play this can be erthtk, abd, lenshu, etc (clan league competitive mods). In addition the matches will be first to 3. And the rankings in each tier will be based on not on elo but your win/lose record. With a max of 3 matches/duels against different opponents a day.
I find this system the only method to find ur true rank. And make tb fair and exciting for all.

you should seriously put the matchmake button inbetween free play and multiplayer, that way many more people would use it simply because they can see it directly and are reminded of it's existance before they join a room

One month reset almost literally means that the player who plays the most gets rank #1 (or at least top ranks). We have seen this quite a few times now. Rankings take some time to even out and reflect skill.
Three month season balances the amount of games played better.
Activity should be an important factor when it comes to rankings, but no the main one.
I still think this will affect good casual players, but we can't fix everything.
In general we need more players to play (advertisements? Possibly a new rank advertisement team?). Some players start playing and generally enjoy it, then they play multiplayer, but because they don't know how to play and get matched against good players, they get discouraged and decide to quit. (I have showed this game to many of my friends and it happened 100% of the time.
I suggest having the newer players play vs new players. BUT once a yellow belt wins >80% (or 70%) he will be matched vs regular players and if he the drops drastically go back to the new players. This will filter out alt accounts. Let's be honest the alt accounts are sort of ruining the new player experience
What we could also do to filter alt accounts is to attach a phone number to one account (kinda like csgo prime) and match prime vs prime (if possible due to low player count). I'm saying this because we don't just need to fix a problem, but we also have to prevent them.
The best way to make this game grow is advertisement and making new players stay. There once was an improved tutorial thread where basically nothing happened... You should fix that...
I think the best thing that could happen to toribash rn would be a new wave of players. Many players joining at once! Like a small and short boom for thd community. To achieve this, just putting advertisements on a webside wouldn't work. A few players would maybe join every day, but they wouldn't stay simply because of the lack of players of the same skill lvl.

Advertise it a lot throughout the toribash community, at leat make the people who are already playing toribash use it.
I have an other idea to keep players playing in the match making.
It basically a multiplier, every game you win in a row you can get your tc multiplied, there could also be a cap at some point. I dont know what the multiplier shoold be. but I think it will attract more players. Because now they play for tc in bet servers and in duel servers.
