Bringing back Tori Agents
in my opinion, we should just bring back Toriagents, it would be a good choice in my opinion, have like a "ingame moderator" type deal, where they make sure everything is in check, make sure there isnt alts, and other stuff.

I think it is a great idea to bring back something like ToriAgents (or "beginner teachers") simply because it would greatly increase the player retention rate. Most people who play toribash leave because it is too hard, too confusing, or an alt is in the white belt rooms destroying them constantly.

Something like a ToriAgent could show them the ropes and help them understand the game, introduce them to the forums, etc.

Right now the HelpSquad could be doing this, but I'm not sure how well they are doing in the beginner rooms, I mostly just see them on the forums.

Help Squad does all of this, stop discrediting them.
Bringing back the staff group will not change anything.

well, but sometimes the best players are bad teachers, have no interest in teaching or cant be bothered to help anyone out if there is no gain for them.

as you stated, making the "best" ingame players something like TA's to help out beginners aswell as experienced players won't work out.
without naming any of them, but the ones which come to my mind clearly would be terrible teachers, won't work without a gain for themself and mostly play this game to duel/bet and earn money with it. why should they bother with teaching other players which potentially could break their niche and lower their income?

otherwise i have no clue what sort of players you mean, to gather for the job you specified.

There's nothing wrong with having another staff group, especially since the one we're looking at adding is specialised and solely focused on retaining beginners.

You seem to have convinced TyZi to stop fighting for the cause by brainwashing him into believing what he types next ; )

I will solve this with math.

Help Squad starts with 100 AP (Attention Points). 100 AP means they have maximum Job Performance.
The Help Squad has two types of duties right now, TS (Toriagent Shit) and NTS (Non-Toriagent Shit).

Lets say that TS makes up 40% of what HS does and NTS is the remaining 60%.

Their AP is split 40/60 between the two tasks.

The Job Performance for TS is, because of a relative lack of care and attention, now 40% of what it could have been with maximum AP. Similarly, NTS also suffers a big loss in Job Performance.

THE CONCLUSION:
Have two staff groups. Get rid of all the Toriagent duties that HS does and form the new Toriagent squad (maybe with a directive to organise a new Unibash system). You will now have two teams dedicating 100% of their focus to their respective tasks, resulting in better performances.

I think that there is already a squad that takes care of ingame moderation, as you can see on Roles and Staff Position.

ES (Event Squad) *
Host events and take care of in-game moderation. They aim to keep people entertained and keep Toribash interesting.

Don't ruin the fun, bringing back TA's it's not necessary, they were removed for some reason.
Is not anyone's fault if somebody sucks. "We" learnt by ourselves and didn't had this teacher stuff, and tbh, the new generation plays a lot and so much better than the old.

The focus should be on the tutorial, explaining the basic movements and the function of each joint, like how not to click randomly.

Having TA's is not a "must be" feature, at least now.
And there are already good hearted people who volunteered to be teachers in a Help Squad Thread on the beginners sanctuary, why not give attention and improve that ?

I'm not suggesting just go onto the game and steal all the best players, saying "you're going to be a teacher now". What I'm instead suggesting is that there are many people who would be more suitable for the role of ToriAgent or similar, but are hindered by their forum activity and skill, which makes little to no sense when in-game tutoring for beginners is part of their agenda. This is not conscription.

We're here to make it fun, not bring the banhammer!
So that's been happening already for a couple of months, so we could have a nicer transition. This is just a formal announcement so everyone knows really.

They were removed as they merged with different groups, but their jobs were being covered as they merged with (GM's I think) who were also in game specialized. Just because some don't need help, that doesn't mean some won't and so that doesn't mean it just shouldn't be on offer.

And what of the other chunk of the community, who reside solely in game? Just think about how many beginner belts you have seen that haven't posted on the forums. People don't make the connection, so they can never learn that way.

Bless, Ele, you guys don't seem to understand how beginners tend to be. It's not like you can go into a room and say "hey guys, I'm here to teach you the game, now do as I show". Around 70% of beginners are not even participating in the chat, and the ones that do tend to just comment on their or other players' plays.
Where am I going with this? The matter of a fact is that if a person doesn't enjoy the game, a guy that sits in the room with him won't change a thing. If a beginner enjoys the game he will go beyond the game and watch youtube tutorials, visit forums, etc. You seem to make really big deal that the new user group would lower retention rates but that's not how it works, people that enjoy the game will stay and people that don't enjoy it will leave.

Whether it would be HS or TA there is a limit of what you can do in public beginner room. You can't just teach them the game itself by going on a fight and saying "watch what I do". You have to really understand this: beginners don't try to learn the game, they are trying out the game. No beginner joins the game and the first thing they think is "wow I really want to be good at this game". No. They are trying out the game and seeing if they like it, you cannot simply lower the retention by coming up to a group newbies and saying "I'm here to teach you the game so stay".

TAs or HS are only there to answer general questions, give various suggestions, link them to threads that can explain them about the game and maybe get rid of some alts. Teaching in such conditions is simply impossible and unnecessary.

Accessing the forum isn't an excuse, you need to access it or you aren't really enjoying everything that the game has to offer. But i agree that it could be better and could motivate the ingame players to visit the forums often, which is a thing that many don't do or aren't really interested and attracted, and i'm pretty sure that most of them are children.

It's 2017, seriously that a ingame staff group is needed to teach people how to play a game ?

Sincerely, that sounds bad in all aspects.. Do you know any game which has a coaching ingame staff and actually works ?
This sounds like regression for the game and making the players more lazy aswell.

And implementing that group isn't a obvious guarantee of success. So, i think working on the tutorials, having a friendly gameplay for newcomers and better first impressions would be more effective and successful than bringing back TA's or something close to it.

You play Toribash with a simple mouse, by clicking single joints and creating movements, anything more clear than this?
It may look hard at the beginning but when you learn the effect of each joint the difficulty decreases amazingly.

Let's be honest, is not the difficulty that makes someone drop the game.

And is not like Toribash is the hardest game ever made, a normal person can learn the basics and play normally in 1~2 weeks. Plus, it's a game with the main focus on mp, it's pretty obvious that you will only be good if you play constantly and actually have interest in looking for information.

And you don't need the excuse of being staff to actually help people and make the change.

The difficulty was, is and always will be the main triumph of Toribash.

Oki, in sum. Implement a coaching ingame staff or actually have better tutorials and a friendly gameplay, which one does sounds better and looks efficient for you ?

I found that if you have a conversation with them and slip in tips they take it very well and are grateful 90% of the time.

I have tried just giving them tips without a conversation because that seems really dry like school - that might be why so many of them
dont seem to be as grateful

Yeah exactly that's my point I'm trying to make: HS or TA are there to give tips and answer questions while having conversations, not schooling them.
Bless wants TA to be teachers that go around servers and teach beginners how to play.
