Ray Rice
Okay, very out of context for us toribashers.

I personally think that the Ray rice incident was extremely funny.
Not necessary the fact he hit his wife, but the way he did it and went about the situation was ideally funny.

For those who have not already seen the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbwTMJroTbI <--------- the link is here.

I'm kinda curious to see the wide spread reaction of everyone else, so I guess start discussing ?

FAU is the ULTIMATE college experience.
as a ravens fan, this whole thing is a double standard and the NFL is dropping him for a dumb reason.

it just seems like if he hit a man there would be no controversy and hed be playing in the next game. but since women are fragile dainty untouchable creatures, its bad.

Im not advocating violence, im just saying for equal rights to happen, this shit has to stop.

You shouldn't say men should hit women back.
However you should say that violence from women needs to raised as an issue to the same level of what violence is towards a woman.

The whole "It's a woman it's not like she can hurt you" needs to stop, women can injure and kill just as men do.

Don't get me wrong I'm not arguing with you though
Needs context and recounts from him and the woman. Looks like she hits him first, he follows her and hits her, then she attacks him again and he hits her again.

Why did she start the fight? Why did he follow her? Why did she continue the fight? What was he doing when she was unconscious?

Obviously both of them will be up on assault charges, so neither will press.

I'm not sure how this involves the NFL, I guess something like "giving the game a bad image" or something equally as dubious.

After I just watched it, I am gonna say she deserved it without knowing what happened.

First hit was from her, and he retaliated. Probably wasn't the best thing to do at the time, but it happened. In the end, after the punch, he was kinda fumbling around her like, "Oh no, what have I done".

But, knowing womens rights when it comes to guys hitting them, she will probably get away with it, while he will be fined or something stoopid.

But hay ho.. That's how life goes.

Just did a quick Google search and found this. Should entertain you guys.

He hit his fiancee. Spousal abuse is a serious issue that merits punishment.

Plus, from a physical standpoint, this is a 200 pound, 5'8" man who can supposedly bench press 400 pounds hitting a woman that probably weighs between 100-150 pounds, and knocking her unconscious. He has been hit harder playing football than he will ever be hit by his now wife. His actions are entirely unjustified, even if she hit first, as he is in no real threat from his fiancee at the time. His actions appear to only be an exertion of dominance through force.

I mean, I wanna know from the guys of toribash. What would you do in this situation? Like really ask yourself and think about it.... from an unbiased perspective, would you really sit there and take the abuse regardless of the punishment he receives from football. He gets payed to take that punishment, not to be physically hit by a woman [Not defending his actions just looking at both perspectives]

Also note that this was at a casino, so intoxication may play a factor in both their actions.

It's not exactly equal. Women alway have the upper hand. She hits you a thousand times and people will be like " She's a woman, it's not gonna hurt that bad". Hit her once and it's against the law. What's up these days?

He should have sucked it up and taken it. Just because somebody else wrongs you does not justify you wronging them back.

Like I said, his only justification for doing this is an assertation of dominance. His fiancee was getting "out of line", so he hit her. He then goes on to drag her unconscious body, a very large sign of disrespect considering he could have easily carried her. The entirety of that incident was an exercise in control over his fiancee, which is not equality. Letting this action go unpunished would be the epitomy of inequality.

People need to realize that this isn't a microcosm for double standards against men with assault. It is irrelevant in the situation that women are capable of committing assault, or than women are treated differently from men when it comes to charges of assault. Any argument trying to complain about any of these points are red herring arguments, because they're abstractions about criminal law, not the actual event. It is irrelevant whether the process of assault prosecution is fair or not between the genders because this is not about gender differences, it's about this one instance.

Assault is assault, it doesn't matter if women get lighter penalties for committing it, what matters is that assault is a serious crime that merits serious repercussions. The facts are simple, he hit his wife hard enough to knock her out, which is also enough force to cause brain damage, and then dragged her through public while unconscious. This is assault, and the punishment for it is merited. If anything, it has been light.

And being intoxicated isn't an excuse. Inappropriate use of alcohol resulting in a crime is still punishable. Drunk drivers are the most obvious example to support this claim.

I didn't know the US had a law like this.

So I can go around punching people who are stronger than me as much as I like and they can't do shit about it? That's hilarious. If someone's wearing body armor can I shoot them then say "I'm not wearing body armor so no backsies!"?

In Australia punching someone is punching someone, regardless as to who is stronger. Though we do have considerations for self-defense, so because she was charging at him and he was backing up, he would probably get some concession.
