The 100 Greatest Songs of All Time
Hi. I'd like to use these forums to compile a list of the 100 greatest songs of all time, spanning genres. You guys propose songs with arguments as to why they're so great (influence, sales, musical complexity etc.) and I'll create the master list. Below will be the current draft, which i'll try to update frequently. Try to edit this list by suggesting new songs, or trying to kick other songs out of their spot.

Rules:
1. Any song can be added to the list (this includes rap, etc.).
2. Covers of Songs can be included (i.e. All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix [A cover of the Bob Dylan song])
3. Don't dispute a song's credibility without listening to it a few times, even if you hate that particular band/artist.
4. By the same token, don't suggest a song without being familiar.
5. When suggesting a song, provide a link. Links will be added to the list.

nice list,I havent heard the first song but if its first then it must be good ill hear it sometime.Patience and November rain guns and roses:I would like it to be added to the list, its an influental song for me,and it rocks hear it and I hope you will put it on the list
Your messed up world enthrills me
little wing is sooo much better than that - in musical complexity and sheer beauty.

much as i love metallica, one isn't even nearly top 100 material. bob marley did Redemption song better, and i'm gonna complain abrasively until muse's hysteria, voodoo chile (hendrix), and "cocaine" (clapton) get a mention.

some good stuff in there, though ;)
Thanks a lot for the input guys.

@William: Definitely check out A Day in the Life. Fantastic song. As for your suggestions, i have to say no. Yes, November Rain's a good song (i own it, and have heard it). Unfortunately, it is often subject to ridicule for being a "Stairway Wannabe". Those people are... kinda right. Sorry.

@Harl: Good points all around. I disagree about Redemption Song, however. Johnny and Joe's cover is perhaps the second greatest cover of all time. Being at the very near end of both their lives and careers, they sing with such emotion that it's hard not to give them credit. Props to Marley though. I'm gonna remove One, but keep Master of Puppets where it is. As for Little Wing, I really wish I could place it higher but it is simply too short. It almost seems unfinished, actually. Musical complexity aside, if Hendrix had just added a little more laterally rather than piling up guitars over the one track, etc. (or in addition to that) it would be near perfect. Unfortunately he didn't ._.

Cocaine: Good song, and often overshadowed by Layla, Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, etc. I'll think about it.

Hysteria: I have to listen to a little more Muse. It's just that I doubt how profoundly important this one song is. They seem like more of an album band (see Radiohead). However, Paranoid Android was a good enough song that it made the list. Again, I'll think about it.

And too much Hendrix. If I was to put another Hendrix song in, it would be Castles Made of Sand or If Six Was Nine
little wing is very nice, but november rain is just genius, beats little wing in every thing and especially vocals.
Your messed up world enthrills me
That's where you're totally wrong. In fact, with better vocals, November rain *might* deserve a spot here. Axl Rose is THE worst vocalist I have heard. Jimi Hendrix, on the other hand, has a beautiful voice.
Too much U2 and R.E.M

I suggest:
OMD - Enola Gay
Replace Eminem's - Stan (WTF EMINEM!??!?) with Public Enemy - Bring the noise OR N.W.A - Straight outta Compton
The Smiths deserves atleast one spot
You have 2 songs by Metallica and none by Black Sabbath = FAIL
Atleast one country song please. I suggest something by Lefty Frizzell
