Im guessing this isnt exactly "hot off the presses" type news here, but Google will be releasing an operating system in the near future. Chrome OS will be a light, fast system built to appeal to people spend much of their time on the web. From the videos I have seen it is designed to look like the Chrome browser, and they are pushing the idea that it will be fast as hell.

As well as disscussing this, I was hopinh to get conversation started about just how big Google is, and whether or not their size is a good thing. The company has their hand in just about every dish related to the internet and computers. According to this page, which I just found and know little about the company is worth 153.4 billion dollars. Not to mention the fact that much of the data they handle is personal info pertaining to individuals. The companies moto is "Don't be evil" and as of yet it would seem as though it is run by programmers and nerds by and large, but should any company get this big? Or is it just bad news waiting to happen?

I have used the chrome os, and I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of it.

I can't wait until they are done!

In my opinion, as i always preferred everything relative to Google, Chrome is fast, simple and not full of bullsh*t like Mozilla Firefox or even Opera ( which i've used a lot.. and i mean it ).

True, they may track our informations, but, WHO CARES? If people knew how vulnerable we are while surfing in the web, people would not even access BBQ.COM. There are millions of people using Google Tools, and there are a few thousand of people working on the company.. Do you really think they would go and look for you to see if you are looking porn or stealing paypal accounts? Probably not.

I approve Chrome OS, and i think the Opera and Firefox are getting weaker everyday while Google makes progress.

Google Chrome is the best web browser and Google Chrome OS is the best operating system available. How much does the GC OS cost? I know GC web browser is free, right?

When this comes out, I will totally put it in my notebook. Just see how handful it is, how easy and how fast you can run it, a totally easy environment with 0 complexity. Of course it is not for gaming nor any other hard software that would be normally used on another OS, hence why the notebook.

I'm loving the idea so far, I wouldn't really mind about the open files thing, since I would only use it for quick browsing, reading books or even for Skype. I can already see myself in bed reading a book with Chrome OS and my notebook. :P

yeah, from what I can see this is basically a glorified mobile OS for netbooks and the like. Similar to how iPads work I would imagine, but probably with more functionality.

And as far as google keeping track of where you surf, it's all for advertising and probably has very little to do with knowing where any given individual ends up on the internet. What I was going for was more how Google has services for just about everything computer related. It really is staggering to look at the list of what all google, the company, does and the companies they have acquired. Also it is important to note that I obviously trust them enough, since I use their products all the effing time.

I don't see any reason for an OS (if i can call OS) be all based on a Browser.

So the OS will be app based? Sounds really capitalist from Google's point of view. Even if they release it free, if we can't install any other software, they'd be making money. Then again, we can choose not to install it.

So from what I understand, the source is public, and you can submit additions and whatnot? That's pretty interesting.

But if it make my PC fast like a hell ......... it's gonna be awesome (hehe)
