It wasn't always free. They didn't make it free to please you, I would think. It was a calculated business decision so they could market boosters, in hopes that if it was free there would be more people that would buy boosters, making them more money in the long run.

on the matter hiding is right in a sense the story goes hampa allowed for tc purchaseign via paypal. Once that was set he looked at the monthly income or something from tc being bought and reg keys being bought. More money was flowwing from tc bought than reg keys. It's common sense then if you had to have a reg key to buy anything, then take out reg keys=more people playing toribash= more people want better items= more tc purchased/boosters= more money
