depends on what suits you best, I'd try these ones out;
3D sketch (Google) ( http://www.sketchup.com/ )
3D Studio Max (autodesk) (if you can't get your hands on this then try Gmax it's little brother)
Maya (autodesk)
Cinema 4D (maxon)
my personal fave is 3DS MAX, cevius uses that to but xennox uses cinema 4D...
what ever you do don't use Blender, that sucks >.>
oh and also out of those 3D sketch is the most user friendly... and either Maya or 3DS MAX is the hardest...
If you want something good and also affordable, try out Milkshape3D. www.milkshape3d.com. It's only $25 and worth every cent and then some. It's a great product and highly recommended from me to use as a 3D modeler.
I recommend Wings 3D, its a free and very nice modelling program, its also pretty darn easy to use.
Its got some pretty nice UV-mapping aswell, but I recommend you texture and render the models somewhere else
