But to be inept is to be lacking, or inadequate. So calling it an inept journey is an inapt way of putting it.

You'd want to say "An ept journey."

But then you could go down a long and tedious path of discussing whether or not "ept" is actually a word, most dictionaries wont have an entry for it, but the Oxford English Dictionary does, so that's all that counts.
