With HD, yeah it’s only memorization (pretty obvious, since you cannot even see the drums haha), therefore with training, nomods plays (even those damnly fast tracks where you cannot barely see the colors) can be cleared within a few tries.

But you’re right, it’s really hard to get used to it, especially after years of osu!std, giving away our tablet and using our main hand to tap just like mania...

What I struggle the most with though is playing on alternate. I generally make less mistakes not alternating but it's really straining on my hand. I alternate in standard for this reason but it's much harder on taiko. It would probably help a lot to remember those pattern packs.
