As the Palaces Burn is a sweet album, as is Sacrament.
But the greatest metal album I have ever heard is The Blackening, by MachineHead.
I'd like to see Hulk get so pissed that he exits his physical body.

If you really want music with a theme and a unique sound, I highly recommend listening to Fear Factory.
It's Industrial Metal, lots of guitar, machinelike drumming and surprisingly, harsh, soft and melodic vocals.
