'Retro' Games
Well after a horrifying 40 pages of searching, and to my surprise, I didn't seem to come across any thread covering the topic I was planning to make here. Nor did it seem to go against the rules. (Correct me if I'm wrong. I will close/remove if it is.)
But anyway, It can probably be said with no objection that a fair amount of people on the forums either grew up with, or even just love the style (or as I would put it, charm) of older games in general. (Hell, maybe you're even like me. Maybe you just love collecting these games for whatever reason it may be, such as sentimental value, physical value, bragging rights, etc..) And I'm even more certain that those of you whom belong to these several groups definitely wouldn't mind a thread based on the 'intelligent discussion' (i,e: sonic cd rox) of older games and experiences alike.
-----------------------------------------
So I present to you without further ado. A thread based on the discussion of older games and general experiences alike!
EDIT: For this instance, the definition of 'older games' should be stretched to accompany any game that's passed it's time.
In Layman's Terms: If you don't consider it to be a 'modern' game, then feel free to chat it up.
But yeah, it should be pretty simple.
A good start would be to:
List some games you used to play, and give some opinion on the games if you'd like.
Maybe, if you feel the game isn't too known, give a short description of the game for other people who may be interested, etc.
Give even more opinions.
Discuss. Discuss. Discuss.
------------------------------
Anyway, I can start, maybe?
I myself pretty much started growing up as a child about the time that the n64 was released, so it wouldn't be hard to tell that some of my favorite games of all time are from the n64/gamecube era.
But anyway, I'd have to thank my grandfather for getting me into games at such a young age, since he was actually a very big Legend of Zelda fan at the time being.
Time passed and I continued to play games, get bored of them, and allow my childish mind to let my parents to sell them.. Sadly.. :/
Anyhow, just recently (recently as in, the past couple of years) I've found myself going out of the way to purchase things from Consoles to Gameboy color games in order to appropriately restore my collection. And I'd have to say that I have quite a bit to boast about at the current moment.
Sadly, I can't really say a lot for this game, as my save battery for the cartridge fizzled out on me once I got the Master Sword. It's a sad truth, but I really enjoyed the ride along the way. Im hoping somebody else can fill out the games expectations for me.
The amount of times I've 96-exited? this game is both amazing, and embarrassing. But for an overall opinion, I'd definitely say this game is a must buy.
If anything, the one thing in this game that I just can't stop gushing over would have to be the control. The way Mario controls in this game feels PERFECT compared to any other 2-D Mario game, and it's definitely something that makes me feel in control of what's happening on the screen.
At the very beginning, I was turned off by the game. Most likely due to it's non-linearity and setting, of which I was unused to a the time being. But it didn't take long for me to warm up to it, and boy am I glad that I did.
Once you acquire a taste for exploring and trying new methods in gaming, you might just be unable to put this one down.
And being a walking arsenal of destruction isn't too bad either.
I wish I could say more for this, but I really can't. The story is great and the combat is just as you'd expect from any final fantasy game.
I'd say it's a must buy for any rpg-lover. But otherwise, this might not be too fun for you.
It's a fucking wonderful game, and I'd play it all day any day. So don't get me wrong when I say that I don't feel that it's aged as well as other games at the time. Great platformer though, just wonderful.
These games are probably my favorite RPG's of all time. They're always filled with colorful, interesting characters and areas. The combat is fun and easy to jump into, and the story is.. Sub-par..
Still an excellent game that's worth every penny spent in my opinion.
Pretty much A Link to the Past, but transitioned to 3-D. Although those of you out there who haven't seen anything about this game should look for yourselves, it's pretty awesome.
Probably my favorite game of all time, so don't get me wrong if I start to rub around this game in all the right places.
To keep it short, this game has a great story, interesting characters, awesome game play, and a main character that is VERSATILE AS FUCK.
It's a shame that so many people just toss it aside for the slow beginning.
I also like to speed run this game a f*** ton.
You run really fast and kill a fat man making robots.
Not much else to say aside from that I've spent quite a bit of hours replaying these games. Why? Because you're a really fast hedgehog that likes to be in fun platforming games. A lot of you should know how awesome these games are anyway.
I also tend to speed-run these games too often as well. :/
Well, you run really fast and beat up a fat guy making robots.. But in 3D!
But yeah, not much else I can add on here. They were my first sonic games, I love speed running them, etc..
Pretty much like the original Paper Mario. The characters and places are awesome, as well and the game play. However this time there's a pretty awesome plot thrown in there as well.
This game, aside from following the same tried and true formula of every 3-D Zelda game before it, is still able to be packed with hours of fun and interesting gameplay.
Although, I always felt that this game was underrated at the start, due to it's new style and main character. However, I'm glad to see it picking back up now.
Sometimes this game can leave me speechless.
It was said that a lot of fans were skeptical about bringing Metroid into a three-dimensional perspective. (As it was something that could make or break a series at the time.)
I don't know what they did to make it the game that it is, but whatever it was, they sure did it right.
I don't really know what makes me love this game so much, so I hope that somebody else can answer that for me. But what I do know is that I'm sad it was so short, and I'm glad that there's a sequel that I have yet to play.
This is actually my first and only copy from any of the first generation Pokemon games, but I still love it to death.
The only nitpicks I may have is that sometimes I found myself getting lost and consulting to a guide.
However, this is still an awesome game to enjoy during some of my dragging classes in school.
And lastly.
This is definitely my 2nd, maybe even first, favorite RPG of all time. (I know, right.)
But as far as my biased opinion goes, this game was one that I could invest time in more than any other of it's kind.
The story is just awesome, and the game play is both fun and integrated with quick time events to make it more immersive.
If there's anything bad that I could bring up about it, it's the fact that escort missions ARE STILL HORRIBLE.
tl:dr: opinions
Anyway. These are all my extremely long and typically biased opinions since, yes. I am a HUGE nintendo fan.
I hope anyone who's read them gets something from it, as well as that I hope this thread gets some traffic for what it is.
