Honestly it depends on what you define as an 'alien'. If you're looking for grey, large headed beings go somewhere else. If you're talking complex forms of life from another planet then yes, it's highly plausible that there are extra terrestrials within the billions of planets in the Universe, it's hard to believe we would be the only sentient lifeforms. Even if microbial life is found on another planet they're considered alien.

Life does exist definitely in universe, but the question gets more complicated with sentient creatures, or simply "clever" beings,
its very hard for a creature to become a thinking one.
What about planets?
for now, Gliese 581 system may contain 3 planets that are within the "habitable zone", that means the temperature is enough to sustain the water as a liquid, and the gravity is enough for planets to be covered with atmospheres
