or dont use outlines at all...

using properly contrasted colors ought to remove the need for outlining your shapes

Think of it as a security blanket... (Odd I know)
It's just a way to keep em clean, or "safe". So I keep them there cause it makes my textures "safe" and more "clean", yet their crap.... This is why I'm learning

well you have gray shapes on a gray background (i assume, also of the same shade) this requires you to draw outlines to distinguish your shapes from the background color.

if you made it gray on a darker color of gray you wouldnt need to outline

then you say, FUCK, how about your heads avwave, they are the same shade of gray?





then i say, look at the edges of my shapes and they have a different shade of shadow from the background, making it look like its separate from the background

aslso it doesnt need to be a drastic color change, just enough to make the shape stand out from the background color

pay close attention to halo head number 1 in my sig.

see the shapes? they are either separated by

1. a very faint and blurry line (see the details on the top of the head/the details on the visor)

2. a very faint change of color (see the faceplate/mouthguard)

not a very drastic change in color or not a very dark and rigid line in sight, as i said, just enough to let you distinguish the shapes from one another.

i always say, outlining is very a bad practice in texturing, and i aims to be rid of it as much as possible

put more effort in the transition areas of your shapes

also, try this experiment. instead of putting outlines, to mark your shapes, use a drop shadow, you'll see what i mean

Okay, so I'm gonna try blurring em, and merging em in a way.
Drop shadow? Hmmmm I think I did something like that on my Chibi-Robo set, which was a fail Lol :P
I'll have to practice allot with this. In hope to become better. I'm positive I'll become better at texturing, it's just how long it will take.

Oh and you should make a ODST head for the new Halo. (Just an idea.)

better, but not quite there yet

still looks like the shapes have been pasted on the background. how about an eased transition, or a patterned background?

The lighter parts of the shapes have tiny blurred lines. Still.

Uhm the ease transaction, or patterned?
What do you suggest and how should I do it?

Mind you I'm working with gimp.
