My post count seems to have been brought down 200 points...

I am positive that I have over 2000 posts.

Maybe a huge thread that you posted in got deleted, most likely a dead clan that you used to be in got deleted.

If you post in a thread, then the thread is deleted, your posts get deleted, yes? Therefor your post count will go down.

Well I didn't think that your post count relied on the existence of your post, but more of a "tally" where it would be permanent.
