Duration and range mods kill off an entire room in defense missions. The update made strength less of a priority because it only increases damage per tick, not the number of ticks. Regenerative molt and primed flow are good choices as well, so you can use your abilities more (high energy costs) and not die (no regenerate outside of molt).
