The Event Squad

Ladies and Gentleman. Boys and girls. Those who identify as other kinds of things and lizard people alike. I am proud and excited to announce that the GameMasters are no more.
And in their place comes The Event Squad.
This change comes with quite a lot of new things and I want to be open with community about what it will mean for them, for us, and also why we did it.

Index of all the things:
  • Changes to the team
  • Book of Records
  • Events
  • The Team

The Direct Changes:
(By direct changes I mean stuff that affects the team directly, aesthetically, or operationally.)
  • Forum changes
  • Ingame changes
  • What we do
  • Integration with other staff

Forum Changes:
So in terms of the forum, as you can see we're no longer teal. We're dark purple. That's gonna be the most obvious thing!
With this we also have a wee shift in terms of focus. The past few months we have strayed away from doing general reports, with smods taking up more of those. We made this shift in order to focus better on making good solid events for you guys and maintaining activity.
Our events will now have the [ES] tag to identify them.

Ingame Changes:
Uuuuuuuu, we're changing our ingame colour also to dark purple. This move is to avoid confusion among staff groups and create a distinct difference between the guys who host events and "admins". In addition to colour the symbol will be changing. The Events Squad will no longer be seen with a ~, but a *. A lot of the time when people complain about "admins" they actually mean one of the other specific staff groups and a distinction should be made to avoid confusion for newer and older players alike. We'll hopefully be hosting more in the coming months with EVEN MORE TRIALS COMING SOON!

Please note: Due to some dev issues the ingame changes to colour and symbols will be happening shortly.

What we do:
So as I briefly mentioned before, we've made a shift towards events hosting and not trawling through the general reports. We've got Smods to go through those now. THIS DOESN'T MEAN WE CAN'T HELP. We'll definitely still be around as your first port of call if a scam is happening, or if someone is being general troublesome ingame, you can come get a gamemaster and we'll do our best to sort it out on the spot. But if the case gets too large/convoluted and requires a general report then our involvement in it will become less. It makes sense to have the guys that host events and are ingame all the time to be available to help whenever they can, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have them be the ones that deal with a lot bans. We're here to make it fun, not bring the banhammer!
So that's been happening already for a couple of months, so we could have a nicer transition. This is just a formal announcement so everyone knows really.

Integration with other staff:
So as most of you know we have had a team of GM artists and mod makers working with us collaborating on projects that are starting to come to fruition. In addition to this, we've now absorbed/integrated the Item Forgers into our midst with the hope of collaborating even more to get you good items.
Activity with the Item Forgers is much harder to moderate/encourage given that it's a highly specialist skill. With this, we will be opening an IF recruitment drive very soon! So if you make models and want a chance to be a part of this cool new thing, get practicing and then get involved.
With this, we also encourage people to apply for the GM art and Mod Maker teams too! We've got a really solid bunch at the moment so our standards are high, but if you think you'd enjoy working with us then please throw us an application with some examples of your work.

Book of records:

Along with all the changes to the team, we're also gonna be releasing a load of new things! NEW THINGS!

We have collaborated with the guys over at ORMO and the local moderators of the replay board to introduce prizes for breaking records. They have been working on creating a new version of the book of records. Orko here is gonna explain what they're doing and why they're doing it:

The release of Toribash 4.95 saw changes in gameplay, specifically in the effect of bruises on dismemberments. This affects The Book of Records extensively. Some records submitted prior to the release of 4.95 are now obsolete, for playing these replays in any later version shows different results, such as extra dismemberments that prevent the replay from unfolding as it did when it was originally submitted as a record. Aside from that, some pre-4.95 established records might be easier or more difficult to beat now.

In order to accompany these changes without diminishing past accomplishments, a new iteration of the The Book of Records will be introduced: The Book of Records MKIII. However, this does not mean that TBoR MKII will be removed.

All the records currently held in TBoR MKII will be moved to MKIII, while all the records in TBoR MKII that were beaten in any version past 4.95 will be changed to the records previously submitted prior to 4.95. Once the new Book is released, if a pre-4.95 record is beaten, it will be updated in MKIII, however it will be kept in MKII. This serves as a way to start fresh while still recognizing the glory of the pre-4.95 record hunters.

The new Book will also see changes regarding a few “problematic” records, which are records that we have seen as debatable or subject to opinion. For example, “Fastest 1,000ED run” is difficult to define, as it is not clear as to what constitutes a run. Such records will not be moved to TBoR MKIII, they will stay in MKII.

As a way to bring this in with a bang, as I mentioned you can now get prizes for achieving records, dependent on how long they've been around!

1 month = 50k + 5ST
3 months = 75K + 7ST
6 months = 100K + 10ST
1 year = 150K + 15ST
2 years = 220K + 20ST
3 years = 300K + 22ST
4 years = 400K + 25ST
5+ years = 500K + (100K * X number of years after the 5) + 30ST
New Record = 50k and your timer to hold it begins

So get replaying!

Also huge credit to Orko and a lot of the ORMO guys for sorting out the book of records and putting in mad time for that.

Events:

OOOOHHHHHHH!
We plan to have more competitive events that incorporate the matchmaking and ranking system as it becomes better and more reliable.
This time I can promise that we will push forward positive changes for the ranking system now that it's more along the right lines.

In addition, we're gonna be launching something EXTRA SPECIAL within the next 24 hours to celebrate the all new 5.0 and also the 10 year anniversary of toribash!

Our ingame tourneys will now be ETOURNEYS so be careful when you join them!

She/They

Yeah, I only don't like erthtkv2 because of the mod's name. Make it "tkv2," and the mod will instantly become more popular. This is a valid reason as the name of the mod is still an important feature that no one seems to have yet discussed.
