can we have social groups back?
I miss them, even if they weren't used that much. I just don't think any sort of fear factor warrents their removal. What happened in any case?

But, in short, social groups were removed due to the same reasons as orgs. It was cool back then, but it turned into a profile statistics thingy, losing its original purpose.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "profile statistics?" It seems like you mean that people did it for clout, but I'm wondering how?

When you joined social groups, their name showed up on your profile. When other people viewed your profile they could see you were part of "Famous person friend group" and now you have clout
