The objective was clear. A resistance haven was under attack by the evil nazi enemies and so we had to assemble (read: scramble) a squad to help defend the outpost.
The way this mission works is that there are civillians all over the map and the enemies kill one each turn and we have to save a total of 6 and/or kill all the aliens- easier said than done.
The mission started out with a
nasty surprise that quickly dimished my hopes of anybody surviving this mission.
That's one of the three "Chosen". Minibosses that are supposed to start showing up in your game to spice things up and to wreck ur shit.
I've usually only encountered them after the 6th or 7th mission
in a campaign. this one showed up on the 4th. bad news. at least he is the easiest of the three
Undaunted, we push ahead and spot a small enemy group, lead by one of their "priests". These dudes in white are alot more mean than what they sound like, being able to stun your soldiers, mind control them, panic them and even cheat death
They spot us and the priest moves up and promptly puts tri2killme to sleep
Thank god he didn't actually mind control him since that would have been bad.
After we dispatched of the priest and his altarboy, the turn ends and we are informed that a group of three aliens lead by a sectoid is very close, killing civillians indiscriminately
They hadn't spotted us yet though, so TheAnimal quickly greeted them the old fashioned way
They didn't appreciate. (note the poster in the background in memory of budsi)
We move ahead to engege while on the low ground, Azure saves the first innocent
The enemies rush us and we get some free overwatch shots as tri2killme shoots and misses a trooper
The sectoid uses this opportunity to revive the priests altarboy as a zombie altarboy. I called him jesus
Another enemy goes around the right side of the group and puts himself right next to azure in a very dangerous flanking position, only to turn around and shoot a civillian instead. Needless to say azure had his priorities in proper order instead.
The second of trooper dies in a hail of bullets from TheAnimal's minigun
Inspired, TheAnimal attempts to do the same to the remaining sectoid but misses
Unfortunate for him, but even worse for Pranit, who moved up to secure a civillian, thinking the sectoid would be dispatched. The sectoid was not stupid and shot him, making him bleed out.
This sudden turn of events made TheAnimal panic, who was tired from the start (low will because he nearly died back in those tunnels), and forced him to cower down and cri for his mommy.
at the same time our friend tri2killme gets ripped a new arsehole by the psi zombie our sectoid friend resurrected earlier. If only your name hadn't challanged him to tri (badummtss, he ded)
We are now down to effectively one person. tri2killme is dead, pranit is unconscious and dying, TheAnimal is pissing himself and only Azure was able to do anything. But this was when our friend
the Chosen Hunter started fucking with us, he used his sniper rifle to mark azure, forcing him to move and stay off the high ground or risk being sniped.
But azure had to move and he also had to kill the sectoid or the psi zombie jesus would also kill TheAnimal. In an all-or-nothing move, Azure moved as close as he possibly could without getting sniped
and pulled off the shot of the century, killing the sectoid and psi zombie jesus by extension (azure was down out of frame below the tower, and the sectoid was all the way in the back infront of the car)
down to two people able to shoot, i decide to evac instead of risking a squadwipe at the hands of the Chosen Hunter. Live to fight another day or so I'm told
Ofc we weren't going to leave pranit behind
END OF MISSION
Casulties:
tri2killme (dead)
pranit (gravely wounded)
MVP:
Azure
There were some promotions at least. Azure was promoted to become a specialist and pranit became a ranger.
