Where do you see the world 60 years?
Think about it. If you started taking about the concept of cell phones and internet 60 years ago people would have thought you were crazy. And if you told people that a show like "Teen Mom" was ethical people would have a heart attack. My question to you is where do you think we as a human race are going in the far or short future and whether it be negative or positive. More importantly realize that this question pertains to nothing specific meaning feel free to talk about technology or ethics of the future!

I've mentioned Ray Kurzweil on these forums before, and he's got an interesting documentary called Transcendent Man (you can find it on Google). Kurzweil basically believes that in the next 30 years or so, there'll what he calls a 'technological singularity' (this is also the basis of his book, The Singularity is Near).

I think it's very exciting and that there's some merit to that theory. If singulariy can be achieved in 30 years, then I don't even know what's possible in 60. It's a brave new world and there's a lot of possibilities where shit could go wrong, but I'm optimistic.

That's my view, anyway.

Merging with our technology and who knows? maybe in 60 years that's when technology will fail us.
Well said, and a very interesting point. Honestly if you go to google images and look at Dubai its amazing. It looks like you're looking at a space colony. They have islands shaped in a miniature world map look at it. ITS NUTS.

My thoughts of the future world are bleak. Pollution everywhere, crime at a rise. Technology getting way to far ahead of itself. I don't think I want to know what the world will be like in the future. It is bad enough now.

Things get worse every generation, teenagers get dumber, our resources go into making ipods smaller, we worship whores, people want drugs to be legal, not to mention when it comes to theorizing about the future it's next to pointless. The world really hasn't changed much since space flight and major medical procedures, besides that nothing world changing has gone on. I say the world will down in its own stupidity.
Present to me the most beautiful woman, and I shall reward you with chronos

I agree with you fully. It doesn't look like a good future.

> implying teenagers hadn't always been dumb
>> inb4 "but when I was teen I wasn't dumb"
> implying current generation is the first to be in to commercialism
> implying current generation is first to like drugs
> implying current generation is the first to have bad idols
> implying the internet (1960's) didn't change the world (space flight was 1957)
> implying somehow you are the only smart one in the world
We've grown more in the past 6 decades than we have in the past 6 centuries. Who is to say we won't become more powerful in the future? The only thing stopping that could be the alarming growth rate of the population. In the next 60 years, we most likely will have a human landed on Mars which is quite an achievement. I imagine America will continue to exert it's importance and that their GDP will rise quickly.

I believe that it will be difficult to breathe due to radiation and deforestation. There will be many more poor people resulting in more crime, risen sea levels and messed up climates (warm in winter, cold in summer). A lot of species would be extinct (possibly us), nuclear wars could take place, etc.
Sorry if my views are depressing, but this isn't a topic for optimism.
