512x512 vs. 1024x512
I'm new to making textures, so bear with me.
How come some artists use a 1024x512 canvas rather than a 512x512 canvas for creating head textures? What are the benefits of using the larger canvas size?
I don't give a flyin' fladoodle
The texture goes from the top of the head to the bottom of the head. But from left to right it goes a full 360 degrees around the head right?

This means that the width is actually twice the height. Thus working on 1024x512 will mean that if you draw a circle, it will be a circle on your texture.
