Torchlight 1 is probably cheaper than TL2, it doesn't have multiplayer but the multiplayer in TL2 is bugged and they never fixed it anyway lol.

The classes are different and mechanics are a bit changed, but they were made within 1 year of each other so it's basically the same game. TL1 maybe even has a better storyline too.
