ITT close minded people who can't grasp the concept of music not made by a 'conventional' modern band.

You don't NEED a guitar, bass guitar, drumkit or keyboard to make good music. There's some early blues stuff which is just guys singing and stamping their foot in time or clapping that's just great to listen to.

Trad blues had basslines on the guitars in pseudo-walking phrases.

well not really. Most traditional blues was actually supported by a harmonica or improvised percussive instrument. Most early blues music featuring a guitar didn't make much use of the bass strings at all, possibly because of the popularity of using a slide.
I'm not really gonna post a debate here. Because I don't really feel like it, plus I'm tired.
So I'm gonna say bass. I'm more into deeper more jazzy tones.
