Revive
[size=3]
[Revive] is an organization dedicated to bringing replay artists from all eras together to learn and revolutionize replay making, together.
Artists of all styles can come together to share knowledge, learn, and extend their own along with others skills. Our tier system allows artists to measure their improvement in the different areas of replay creation and challenges them to push themselves to their limit to complete different tasks with as much style and originality as possible. Our Knowledge Bases allow those who have proven themselves competent in an art to help document and describe different techniques and styles for their fellow artists. Frequent small events and occasional huge, high-payout events encourage all creators to put out their best work.
We have only just begun. We need you to give us your knowledge, your originality, and your best. Help us flood our walls with more knowledge than imaginably possible.
Below lies the hubs for the four primary arts.
Bashing:
The hard style of combat. Bashing focuses on channeling energy and power through momentum, and using it to manipulate and demolish your opponent through devastating hits. Its lethal blows are usually dealt on the Uke dummy in singleplayer and sometimes even upon one's self, but rarely against others on multiplayer.
Bashing is the oldest form of replay making.
Sparring:
The soft style of combat. There are many variations of sparring:
Cooperative sparring focuses on building momentum and flow to create an entertaining battle between you and an opponent; often a real person, but occasionally against yourself.
Competitive sparring focuses on creating a replay in which you defeat your opponent using cooperative sparring flow and technique. Revive is currently in the process of developing a system to regulate this variation of sparring and make it more feasible.
Martial Arts Sparring, also known as MAS, focuses on taking techniques from real-world martial arts and using them in a controlled fight against your opponent. Its realistic punches, kicks, blocks, and grapples contrast with conventional sparring's high-flying kicks and twists.
Freerunning:
The hard style of movement. Here in Revive, the term "Freerunning" covers two things:
Parkour, the art of moving from point A to B as quickly and efficiently as possible. Parkour is known for its death-defying jumps, quick and skillful vaults and climbs, and general speedy movement.
Freestyle, the descendant of parkour. Freestyle is very similar to parkour, but includes fluid, acrobatic alternatives to the methods of navigating obstacles typical to parkour. Tricking moves are often utilized to enhance these replays and set them far apart from regular parkour.
Tricking:
The soft style of movement. Tricking is a discipline that throws together the elaborate twists and advances of various martial arts with flips and rotations from gymnastics and b-boying. The end result is an outstanding combination of powerful and flashy moves.
While tricking can be (and often is) its own form of replaymaking, elements of it are used in other arts very often.
