Rules, guidelines and how to make a clan.
This thread explains the clan system we have here in toribash. If you want to make a new clan, read the rules and guidelines first, as you are expected to follow them. Failure to follow these clan rules can result in anything up to the removal of clan threads or even boards to simple infractions and everything in between.

This thread is open if you have questions. To avoid looking silly, please make sure you've read the thread beforehand.

The Rules
  1. Behave. Be respectful of each other. Don't invade where told not to. If you're being dicks or just being plain stupid, you can expect punishment without warnings.
  2. If you're going to post a thread here, it's either a new clan, or something that's generally useful. Anything without a purpose will be deleted for organizational purposes.
  3. If your clan looks to be inactive, a warning will be posted on your forum. If an explanation isn't provided within a week, we'll assume your clan is dead and your board will be shifted to the Dead Clans board then remove the toriclan.
  4. Hand-me-down clans are not allowed. That includes, buying or selling of clan boards or leadership and various other ways of dodging the council.
  5. Post count requirements of any kind are not permitted. That includes post count requirements for joining the clan, "you must make this many posts in our thread" and "posting x times" as part of your rules/requirements etc.
  6. The contents of a clan bank are considered to belong to the body of the clan. Clan's TC is not for personal use. If you decide to donate, specify in a post what and who the TC is for. The members of a clan are responsible for picking trustworthy bankers, the bankers should not break that trust.

Making a Clan
Getting started

When making a new clan, create a single thread here in Clan Discussion. Title the thread like so: [Clan Tag] Clan Name (If different from the tag). Try to keep the clan tag short as possible. Make sure your name or tag isn't already taken or you will be asked to change it. In the first post you should include:
  • An explanation of how you plan to run your clan and how you make decisions. Other things to include are your rules, aims or goals and possibly an introduction with background info of your clan.
  • A members list showing who the leaders are, and of course all the members.

Becoming an Official Clan
These are the requirements you must meet if you wish to apply to become an official clan. Your clan must:
  • Be at least 3 weeks old. We don't want clans dying while we vote on them.
  • Have at least 4 members.
  • Pay 50,000TC. If you want to become official, you have to earn it.
  • Have leaders which display competence and good leadership skills.
  • Have members who and behave respectfully and appropriately.

When you are ready, you can PM the following application and 50,000TC to a clan mod. The current clan mods are Fish, Hero, Ryan, Brey, Lightningkid, and Erth. If your clan gets rejected, you will get a 30,000TC refund. We don't give a full refund, this means if you are going to reapply, you take some time before hand to sort your clan out.

Clan Application
Clan name:
Clan tag:
Link to your clan's thread:
Link to any external forums if you are using any:
Clan subtitle: (optional)
Leaders name: (red and bold please)
Moderators you want for your board: (no more than 3 of your own clan members, the clan mods don't moderate your board for you)
If you get rejected, who to send the 30k refund to:

Once we receive the TC, your application will be posted in the hidden council board. The council members will discuss and vote on your clan. This usually takes about two to four weeks, please be patient. If you are over curious about how it's going, you may ask a clan mod for a quote so long as you ask nicely. ;o

Toriclans
Toriclans give you tags ingame. Toriclans are available for all clans. To register a clan you need to either, be a moderator of an official clan, or have a thread in clan discussion for your unofficial clan. Clans can be registered here: http://forum.toribash.com/clan_register.php

Purchasing a Private Board
Before you can purchase a private board, you clan must be official for at least six months. Private boards cost 40,000TC. If your clan qualifies for a private board and you wish to purchase one, send Fish the 40,000TC and the following information. Activity checks will be done on private forums. If you abuse it, you run the risk of losing it.

Private Board Information
Private board name:
Private board subtitle: (optional)
Private board password: (don't let this leak out)

Activity Checks
Clan Moderators check on official clans randomly. If a clan is found to lacking in too many ways, it will be shifted to the Dead Clans subforum. The things we look at are, participation in events and wars, In-game activity, IRC activity, forum activity, and post quality. If it doesn't look to bright we'll start asking questions.

Everything Else
Managing a Clan

All clans must have at least one leader. Clan leaders are responsible for how clan decisions are made as well as moderating the clan.

Official clans can have up to three local mods for their board. They are responsible for moderating their board. They clan also PM clan admins if they need changes made to the board. PM a clan mod if you need assistance with moderating.

Reviving a Clan
This generally requires you to round up a few of the clan's former members. After that, you can PM an application to Fish. From there, he will decide what to do. If you look clean enough, you might get your board back right away. Otherwise you may have to make a new DSC.

If you simply want to use a dead clan's name, ask one of the old leaders for permission. Once you have permission, you may start a new clan using their name.

The Clan Council
The clan council is an anonymous group of people who decides which clans become official and which ones do not. The members remain anonymous to prevent them from being hassled about the decisions which the council makes. The council has a hidden board, in which their discussions and votes take place.

If you think you are capable of this job, you may send an application to a clan mod. Include in it your past history with clans, why you'd be good and any other information you think is relevant.

If you've got questions about the council, you can ask them in the Clan Council thread.

Advice
- Avoid starting a clan on your own. You'll find it much easier to get things running if you find a couple of friends to start the clan with you. After all, you don't want your clan to die from inactivity because it never had any members.

- You are free to run your clan as you please, but it pays to keep your clan simple. Basically, a clan is where a group of friends or skilled players can talk and interact with each other. There's nothing like seeing a clan die because they tried to follow an amazingly complicated ranking system.

- Regarding Clan DSCs, it is advisable to put extra effort into the first post and especially work on your first impression. Having a good standard and keeping a "professional" tone is also a good impression.

Reporting invasions
Here is an example of what a perfect report looks like,
We asked him to stop here, and he's just ignoring us.

This is what you should never say,
This guy didn't put invade tags in his post.

First of all, invades are allowed. Do not simply report a post just because they invaded clan. If you don't want them to do this, give them a warning. This is what clan leaders are for, and it's part of the reason clans have their own local mods.

Any invasion which follows a warning is considered an illegal invasion and is a punishable offence. If you report one of these, it's helpful to include in your report the warning they received.
