Adom - Throwing rocks on little girls

Okay, so first of all, not really expecting anyone to be interested in this.
Why?
Because you do not know how2gaems.

This is a roguelike, so... there is a couple of things here that might scare you away.

You dislike dying? - Do not play this game.
You dislike losing a character forever and ever when you die? - Do not play this game.
You like graphics? - Do not play this game.
You dislike complex games? - Do not play this game.
But you like fun? - Well, just play this game.

Anyway, as said, this is a roguelike, and you will die, and you will lose your character forever when you do.

Adom is extremely complex with a steep learning curve, it might be hard getting into, and you will probably give up as soon you see how it looks like.
But when you actually get somewhere in the game you might just enjoy it.

I do love this game, and I've been playing it for a good while now.
Because of all the random stuff that's going on, one playthrough will never end up like the other ones.
The huge collection of items, weapons, skills, attributes etc keeps your interests up.
But as said, you'll need a while getting into the game.

Roguelikes is not for everyone.

You have 12 races to choose from and 20 different classes and shittons of monsters that will kill you.

And I just noticed that I am way to lazy to type down everything this game has to offer, so copypaste forever.

There are twenty different playable classes in ADOM with a variety of abilities, skills, strengths, and weaknesses. This page lists all of the available classes with a brief description of their features. Some classes are noted as "Newbie Friendly", which indicates that this is a class that the community generally feels are, on balance, classes that tend to be easier for new players to learn the game on. This is with the disclaimer that while some classes may be relatively easy to play in general, some racial combinations may be particularly undesirable (eg. Beastfighters tend to be relatively easy classes, but Troll Beastfighters are quite challenging).

ancardia.wikia.com/wiki/Classes

Your character's race has a strong impact on level advancement rate, maximum age, hit points and power points regeneration, and starting alignment, attributes, equipment, and skills. Also, certain races have bonuses or penalties in other areas. See each race's page for details.
In the following table, each race is given a brief description, and the granted skills, starting alignment, relative speed of level advancement, and relative lifetime are listed. Most of this information is taken from the ADOM manual itself. Again, for detailed information (such as starting age), see each race's page.

Well, as you might think, there is a LOT of shit that I'll need to put here, and I'll probably keep working on this thread a bit later, if not, well you'll have everything you need on the wikia.

I'll just leave this right here.

I remember playing this when I was trying out a whole bunch of different roguelikes. As far as I remember, I got ambushed by a bunch of smelly vikings but managed to put up a good fight before being ambushed and killed by another band of smelly vikings.

I had no idea what I was doing.

That was while back though, when the only roguelikes I'd played were IVAN, Nethack, and DoomRL.

What kind of rougelike is this? From your description you seem to think it's some newfangle hipster rougelike...
How is this different from every other rougelike from the 70s? Is this the MW3 of rougelikes?

Good job abusing your mod powers to randomly comment on people's posts.
Can't think of one roguelike from the 70's...
Name one.
Skip the text adventure games.
This is from 94, also claiming my hipster rights.

Every single point in his post, well... Quite retarded.
Also abusing everything, even my position at home.

Not that it really matters though, just an enjoyable game, if not, well, noone is forcing you to like it, or play it.

Also nothing to discuss here, if you like it, play it, if not, don't.

Y u troll.

just sayin.
Rogue = 1980's.

Although I may be wrong, although 99% sure.
Still doesn't really matter, because not discussing roguelikes here, you may pm if you feel the need.

Well, decided to download the newest version today and I've started with a randomly generated character.

Started off with some nice traits: Nobility, Hunt, (Something I don't remember)
Let fate decide my character. My first impression of the intro screen was that it was VERY similar to the character building storylines you get to choose in Mount & Blade :P

EDIT: Well, that didn't take long. Randomly assigned everything, and came out as a Bard who was skilled in flails and maces... but was equipped with a long sword. No matter, I pressed forward. Found a "strange cave" in which I slayed a couple of orcs and kobolds - barely, since I couldn't use the sword well - and encountered a room where "the air feels incredibly stale" and slew more orcs. Down to half my HP at this point, and convinced I had cleared the floor I decided to wait around a bit for my HP to restore.
Nope, ambushed by a kobold archer, two goblins and a hobgoblin. The hobgoblin finally did me in.

Suppose I'll never play a bard again.
