happens when you draw on the very bottom or the very top of a head texture or a joint
I think pheature explained it on his texturing guide. Referred to it as the "no zone"

that's not an optical illusion, its shaped differently and where it meets the neck is at completely different areas.
in one image it ends below the eye.
in the other it ends to the side of the eye.
