Don't you love the misuse of Spanish? In Spanish they have endings for masculine and feminine words. Words that end in "o" or "e" are usually considered masculine and will usually start be preceded by the word "el", the masculine form of "the". While words ending in "a" are preceded by "la" the feminine form of "the". There are obviously exceptions to this, but its a basic rule...
For example:
La Manzana
El Manzano
Both me the apple but...Normally the feminine and masculine forms are used depending on whether the main subject of a sentence is male or female.
I probably have some of this wrong (I haven't studied a lick of Spanish since 5th grade, I'm suprised I even remember any of this stuff...), but you get the basic idea.
