And for my first question can I play online in the demo?

What do you think the demo servers are for? Of course you can... otherwise about nobody would've bought the game...

Advice: get a little it of practice in single player before jumping blindly into the multiplayer mode.

Whenever I try to join it says I need to upgrade to the latest version.

You probably accidentally got the old 2.33 version... if you keep having troubles, hampa can sort them out...

Just redownload the Toribash demo from the homepage.

I just downloaded it today because of the gamespot indie developers how could it be the wrong version

Where did you download it from? If it's from another site, well, they probably don't always keep up with the latest versions.

Well I got it from gamespot and Im downloading it from the official site and hopefully it will work.
