Description
.:This is not a guide for making applications to get into [Bleu]. This is for making applications for other clans once you have graduated:.
Hello everyone, I thought I would take a bit of initiative and try to make a thread that would benefit the members of [Bleu].
As you all know, we are a clan that is a school. We help you prepare in your Toribash for bigger and better clans. But the hardest part of being in a clan, is getting in. The majority of respected and powerful clans don't require a format, like [Bleu] does, and you must write it free form. So that's why I thought I would dedicate a small portion of my time, to try to help out a lot of people. This will help you make an application for a clan once you have graduated from [Bleu] With this stated, lets begin.
Examples
Now before I start teaching you all how to make an application, let's look at some examples of what I think are a few good ones, and a few bad ones.

Well this just shows lack of effort. We will talk more about the different aspects and properties of a good application later, but I think it is clear that this has no effort written all over it. Also, they used a format. And finally, they gave little info besides their desire to join.

No, I am not kidding. This was a real applicant who applied to my clan. Give reasons on why you want to join, and why the clan should accept you.

I have been playing since 2008 and have found myself coming too and from toribash. I made replays as such and would like to contribute to the clan as well as being active, engaging and supplying my input and views on topics, smoking a lot and drinking occasionally. As it seems, I have a bit going on, with my family and common troubles however I am willing to try my hardest to maintain myself as an active member.
Besides that, any further questions regarding my application, PM me or catch me on thy IRC. Thank you.
This application is nothing special, but it is good, and solid. It clearly states the reasons why he would be a good addition to our clan, what he will do if accepted, and a bit of personal info. He was accepted, but only because we already knew him. You have a much better chance of getting into the clan of your choice if you get to know all the members first.

Tori statistics/Xtra info:
Name in-game: Febreeze
I am a black belt about 450 games until i reach second dan.
My favorite mods would be Aikido, Aikido big dojo, Wushu, and Aikido bigger dojo.
I have been on toribash for about 5 months on this account. My most recent experience with a clan would be [-Pulse].
I am a more in-game player although i do try my hardest to post on forums when needed.
I hope that this is up to you expectations and i hope i will be accepted to this great clan. I've already met some of the clan and find you all amazing to play with . I wont disappoint you guys. I'm very excited either way if i am accepted or not you are the best clan in toribash and i would be honoured to join. Thank you c:
It was a good app. Free form, lots of constructive info, and really showed a lot of personality. If only he had capitalized his "I's". It was formatted right and easy to read.

I'm applying without any form of reference from any member, I know, I know... Bad idea but I've been wandering around these threads for a while now and I decided to give joining a try.
As far as personal info goes, I'm sixteen, my favourite colour is orange, my favourite food is sushi, my favourite animal is the Panda. The black and white fluffy one's, not the stupid little red imposters. <---I have a feeling that 90% of that was unnecessary but then again, better safe then sorry. Right? RIGHT? I hope I'm right...
How am I doing so far? *crickets chirping* yup... Um, I have been playing Toribash for a little under a year, all accounts acknowledged. I know that isn't too much compared to most users however I have done my best to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible.
I'm hoping to keep that same mindset if I do get into the clan by learning as much about you guys as possible. As the phrase goes, "Brotherhood is not just a Bible word. Out of comradeship can come and will come the happy life for all." At least... I think that's kind of relative.
For my short time here I have been in one other clan, that being Pandora. most of the members were quite nice however I left due to one or two undesirable individuals that I found were always looking to get attention, any attempt to make them stop would result in them turning into an all caps keyboard warrior.
I normally wouldn't leave a clan for something as petty as that, I make a commitment and I stick to it. But we all have some people that we just cannot stand. They don't appear all that often for me, but when they do I think it's just best to avoid confrontation.
My in-game experience stretches a little further than most users who have only been playing for as long as me, that is not because I'm good... Hell, I'm as clumsy as a mongoose on skates but I'm just very active in the Toribash community and I think that's how I've picked up quite a bit more tricks than most would in this short time. I'm currently a 2nd Dan Black Belt.
As aforementioned I'm not bad at the game. I'm rank 40 something at the moment however I think that's mainly because I always run into lower belts in-game since the black belt rooms always seem to be empty, however I join any GMtourney that I can, not for the prizes but the competition. I like fighting above my own ability, a challenge is always good. So yeah... I'm in no way "Pr0" or "L33t" or whatever people say nowadays. I don't really have any replays to offer besides actual in-game multiplayer one's. sorry, I'm still working on that though, I'm sure I'll get better at it soon.
Oh god... is this application dragging on? I'll try and wrap it up, sorry.
As for my personality. Well... I have a very strong personality. I state my mind on topics and subjects honestly and fairly, so you may come to love or hate me depending on how you see some things, now I know that seems like a silly thing to mention in an application however I personally value honesty over kindness. Most of the time anyway. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean I'm not nice, I always try to be as respectful as possible toward others and will always stray away from arguments. If an argument is about something that won't matter by the end of the day, then why bother?
Oh gosh, I promised I was going to wrap this up. Sorry about that, I get carried away sometimes...
All in all, I feel like I'm a kind, courteous player who will contribute to whatever I can, I'm always willing to help others with anything and I'm active in and out of game.
I hope that wasn't too long or boring. If it was, then I apologise. I know what that feels like... I am a student in high school science after all...
Thank you for your time.
I've never agreed with bribery but uh... Here are some virtual cookies for you guys to persuade you a little more towards accepting me.
A huge, and enjoyable to read app. Did just about everything right. Even managed to pull off a bit of humor, which I wouldn't recommend seeing as it is risky. A lot of personal info, too much even. But clans aren't going to care if your app is too long, with too much detail nearly as much as if you write a short app with not enough detail.
Hopefully after reading those you have a better concept of what defines a good or bad application. 3 of those people got accepted into [one], and two of them are still happily among us, as valued members.
Elements
Every judge of your app looks for certain things that will determine if it impresses them or not. You can't write down every element exactly, seeing as it all comes down to a matter of preference, but there are some universal things.
1)
Effort: The first thing you see when your eyes merely scan over an app, is the amount of effort put into it. This is the most important factor. Dedicating your time and effort into at least attempting to make the best application you can. This is why the best are generally the longest. It shows something about how serious you are about joining.
2)
Format: A common trait of bad applications are the bad formatting. If you just start typing away, it is well...a turn off to it's judges. It makes it unpleasant to read. Try to use paragraphs, and sections.
3)
Punctuation: My god, this is a big thing. perhaps the thing that most people don't get. Use proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, everything. If you don't you will come off as illiterate and unintelligent. You must try your hardest to remember everything your English teacher taught you while making an app.
4)
Formal: The mood of your application is important. You want to be respectable, yet have a good personality. You can definitely go too far in either direction, so how formal you are should be balanced out to a point you determine. Yes, this means stay the hell away from emoticons.
5)
Benefit: Just saying you want into the clan isn't going to get you anywhere in life. You need to have something going for you. Social skills, art skills, in game skills, etc. Just have something.
Summary
Well I know there is more to say on the subject, so I will probably edit this later, but for now, enjoy, and thank you for reading. Written by your dear supervisor Noah.
