Well I haven't read any of these other tips, but you should walk on your balls in aikido. Stay low and never leave the ground. It's good to get your opponent off the ground but there's a fine line between lifting and shoving so be careful. Don't start off the match quickly lifting and shoving because that's noobish, go with the flow. But when the match already started and you both are in your groove start the tactics, take away his control over his tori by lifting him that usually works. But if you want a mod that involves skill but is somewhat similar to aikido then try aikido big dojo. It's like regular aikido but it isn't . It's not just who ever picks someone up first wins. It involves a lot of strategy. Hope this was somewhat helpful.
Curious aren't you.

The easiest way to get your opponent to lose balance is lifting. What's the big deal about it? They can lift you, so why not lift them?

Sounds like you are trying to find an excuse to shove.
