From my observations, applications that are considered good and have a good chance of getting you in let people know who you are. The more words you have, the more your personality is evident, and the more people get to know you. When you write something minimal you either don't allow people to get to know you, or you come off in a way you probably don't want to. Don't force a few quick words out, take the time to let the writing come naturally.
