I use photoshop cs2 to make heads and such, and I wanted to know, how do I make an alpha channel to make parts of my head transparent? If someone could help me use it that'd be helpful =)

go to channels and add a channel it will be called alpha 1 than color invisible parts black and visable ones white (easy question)

Yes and you can also make Alpha channels with Gimp,

Its a really simple process,
1. Create a new layer
2. Delete Background layer
3. Right click on your new layer
4. Then their should be something that lets you turn on Alpha from there
