problems setting up a server
Hi,
A friend tried to set up a server on a linux PC yesterday, connecting 2 clients on a LAN with one PC and one mac running some virtual pc emulator. We could connect to the server, no problem, but when the first move was supposed to be shown, both players exploded.

We tried different server settings, and tried connecting two clients from the PC in case the mac was the problem, but always both players just exploded. I thought maybe some version mismatch between server and client, but both the server and the client were downloaded off the front page yesterday.

Any idea what we might be doing wrong to cause this?

Hi Bogers,

What version of linux and distribution are you using?

The main servers run on CentOS 4.3. I think the SA server runs Fedora Core 1.

I have the exact same problem running on Fedora Core 5

Any help appreciated
Re: problems setting up a server
same here, running fedora core 4 2.6.12

On 0.96 there was no explosion, but with 0.97 it's totally unplayable. Disqualification doesn't work on either version.

with -f 0 -> players explode
with -f 1 or 3 -> one player is disqualified no matter what right from the start but no explosion.

Hi,

I installed a new FC 5 machine today to see if I could find out why it exploded. I didn't get any explosions though.

Some questions:
Is there any error messages when starting tbd?
Is there any firewall that could be blocking or dropping packets?

I also use tar -zxvf to unpack the .tgz file, incase there is some unpackaging problems.

Cheers,
Hampa

Re: problems setting up a server
Hi,

I have installed a FC4 machine and got the exploding characters bug there. So now that I have a problem machine I think I will be able to find out why it's not working.

Thanks for reporting this.

Hi,

If you remove the stance/ directory it should work (works for me in FC4).

Anyone else that can verify this?

Yep, it works now! *thumbs up*

(btw the version I used was 1.97, not 0.97
Re: problems setting up a server
Ok, kool ... I'll check it out on FC5 tomorrow

Btw. I also used tar -xvzf for uncompress and got no error msg.
