Viewing clan history
Uh, hey.

So, I have been in many clans, I have owned and ran a clan. And the amount of people just leave and clan hop, is utterly annoying and ridiculous.

There should, nay, HAS, NEEDS to be punishment for this. I'm not talking about banning or anything of that nature, but I'm not apposed to it if it is needed.

All I am asking is if a player joins a clan, then leaves it, I mean for any reason, they need to have a c"clan-joining-timeout". And at a minimum, it should be a month.

I have had just random members, recruiters and even a co-leader just leave and join many other clans with no punishment at all. People shouldn't just leave without a good reason, but I do understand no one can make them tell a leader they are leaving or even keep them from leaving, but we should try to clean up the clan community by punishing them with a time out.

Future punishment could be a ban from joining clans if they continue to try it.

This isn't a request, this is a must. It's actually annoying.

Any questions, ask. Want more information, PM me.

Thanks.

UPDATE!!!

We have somewhat changed the idea of punishment for leaving clans into a system where Clan Leaders/ Owners are able to keep from inviting Clan Hoppers to their clan by developing a system that allows people to see the clans players have joined, and the duration they were in said clan. This idea was suggested by @sir.

ALSO, @Fee suggested we could create some sort of reward system that the leaders/ owners of the clans can give to players who remain loyal to the clan they are in.

PLEASE, let's focus on developing these points, RATHER THAN attacking me as a clan leader or owner.

My past points before this update have been retracted, hints the link through the text. Any quoting of this text with lines through it from this point forward will be ignored by me.

Thank you!

If it was able to be hidden it would make since to have it, as @Reta said. Players knowing it is there and know that they can hide it, would just be a waist of time for development. I think It should just stay open.

UNLESS

There is a way to have clan owners or leader have a "rank", much like SMods or HS people do, where having that rank allows them to see peoples clan history, but blocks the normal player from viewing it? I don't know if that's even possible.

The way I see it: transactions are kept open to the public as they are often referenced to and used for reporting scam cases - referencing someone's clan history like an open book provides no such use (aside from the point of a clan leader, but not as a moderator or someone filing an official report).

As a normal user I wouldn't want everyone knowing every single clan I've ever joined to and left. I'm sure there are others who may agree and others who may feel indifferent, but that's from the non-administrative standpoint of a user who likes his fair share of privacy from the general playerbase.

He's actually right, I already joined clans that would completely shred the rest of the good reputation that I have left if anyone knew it. Such as cancerous clans or stuff like that. It's a good idea but having the option to keep it private or public should entirely be there.

Undoubtedly possible, but what you're not understanding is that there are users who do not want to give you that form of information because they want their privacy.

Also could be easily exploited with our new clan system: you can create clans for free. Anyone would then be able to register a clan for free, be a leader, and then access the information.

Not opposed to Clan Squad, Clan Managers and Administrators having unrestricted access to the list, but again, from the perspective of a user who wants anonymity from the general playerbase, having the option to hide that information is a must.

SO then create the system but allow access in the players settings to hide it. All agree for the most part?

And, FYI, I understood what you were saying about privacy. I was trying to counter.

Also, my knowledge of the new clan system is slim, as I have been away, which is why i responded with what I did. Just thought I should add.

But since the Users are the ones that "need"/want this information it would be rather useless if only clan staff can see it.
I cant think of a instance in which cs needs to know in how many clans a player was last Month.

Again, it's entirely opt-in/opt-out as far as showing and hiding your clan history—similar to how show and hide your age on the forum.

For the people who want to hide their clan history, they'll be able to hide it. For the people who want to show their clan history or are indifferent, they'll be able to show it to the public.

Expanding on the idea of a personal clan history, when Fish was designing the now old toriclan system I pushed for the idea of a clan timeline, so you could see how a clan developed over time, but I was ignored. Would like to see something like that.

Should be an opt out system, it doesn't strike me as the kind of thing most people would dislike showing. And if they do then it's an easy fix. Plus I feel this is the kind of thing that would tend to affect newer players and clans so having an opt out system means a default "in" would be more useful, don't imagine it's the kind of thing people would be bothered to go and activate unless they're active on the forums, which it seems the new clan system is straying away from so long as they're active ingame.

That doesn't deter people from clan hopping then though, which was the intention behind the original suggestion.

And I've made my case against why it shouldn't be completely public above, and suggested an alternative method of implementing the system into the forum.

My point is: some users want their privacy from the general playerbase. There isn't a negative to having the clan history list as an opt-in/opt-out aside from a couple people getting upset when a random person leaves their clan because they're a clan hopper.

Proposed fix for clan leaders: make it mandatory for your applicants to show you their clan history with their application if you feel so strongly about seeing their clan history. If they don't, deny their application into your clan. Simple.
