More than likely stuff other players have on their toris. Prod the game's options and dial the settings back, it's most likely flames & 3D objects causing the biggest slowdown.

Is the game downloading when it's running slowly? That used to be an issue for some, keep an eye on the download counter in the bottom corner and see if the FPS drops when that's ticking away.
