. But here's a short story that I wrote/am editing. Would link a download, but the different variety of word programs we all have makes that near impossible to work for everyone. Different from the real version of it due to not being able to post the different fonts though.
Copycat
“Jonathan Grimes, Private Investigator. I’m here to check out the scene of
the murder.” Investigator Grimes said.
“Got some ID?” the policeman asked.
“Yeah, sure. Here’s my card.” replied Investigator Grimes, revealing a card which read:
Jonathan Grimes, Private Investigator
281 Claver Avenue, Noland Falls, Minnesota
“Alright, looks legit. You can pass,” the policeman said.
“Thanks.”
Investigator Grimes moved into the building: a suburban home in which its previous owners, Tim and Carry Blunt, were found dead. After making his way through the entrance, Investigator Grimes managed to find his way down to the basement, where the couple were found dead. The chief of police, Ray Hartman, was standing near the doorway.
“Jonathan Grimes, Private Investigator. What’s the estimated time of death for the both of them?” Investigator Grimes asked him.
“About six hours ago for Mr. Blunt, and four hours ago for Mrs.,” Hartman answered.
“So you think Mrs. Blunt killed her husband and then committed suicide two hours later?” Investigator Grimes guessed.
“No, that’s what’s so confusing. The only weapon we could find was a pistol, and it was in Mr. Blunt’s hand; the only fingerprints on it were from Mr. Blunt. Both Mrs. and Mr. Blunt have bullet holes in their head. We can’t understand how that’s possible.”
“Hmm... what’s this? A mirror?”
“The Blunts’. Since it’s the only thing in the basement, we did some searching on it. Only thing we could find was a note from Mrs. Blunt to her husband.”
“Do you still have the note?”
“Yeah. But it didn’t lead us anywhere.”
“Show it to me.”
“Alright.”
Hartman proceeds to pull the note out of his back pocket, unfold it, and show it to Investigator Grimes. It reads:
Went out shopping today when a little old lady stopped me by her house. She asked if I wanted to buy a mirror, and I said yes because we’ve been wanting to fill up that space in the basement. She was kind of weird when she gave it to me, like she really wanted to get rid of it. Anyway, I’m cooking stir fry tonight. Don’t be late. Love you.

“Who is this old lady?” Investigator Grimes asked after reading the note.
“Wish we knew. No record of anybody moving to someplace else within the last week,” Hartman replied.
“Strange. Anyway, I’ll see if I can find anything around the house,”
“Alright,” Hartman replied, not even interested.
Investigator Grimes then searched the house for any clues. He found a small, blank piece of paper inside of an open safe in a closet upstairs.
What’s this? he thought. What would a blank piece of paper be doing in a safe? I think I’ll pocket it for now. Don’t know why, but it seems important.
Investigator Grimes went back downstairs, but tripped on a coat at the bottom of the staircase.
“What the...?” he muttered under his breath. When he looked back at the coat, he was shocked.
How... he thought.
The coat was an exact copy of the one he was wearing. Horrified, he ran to the basement.
“Chief Hartman! Chief Hartman!” Investigator Grimes yelled. He was, however, terrified at what he saw when he arrived in the basement
The police weren’t there.
Don’t worry, don’t worry, he reassured himself. They probably just went outside for clues.
But when Investigator Grimes went outside, there were no police there. Their cars were gone. They were gone.
But why... Investigator Grimes thought. They would never leave the scene of the crime until all evidence they could find had been found!
Investigator Grimes went back inside. He sat down at the kitchen table, not sure what to do. When he looked down, he noticed something. A small, blank piece of paper underneath the table leg. He slowly removed it and looked at it. It said, in Investigator Grimes’s own handwriting:

Investigator Grimes stared at the word for a long time. Then, he quickly pulled the piece of paper he acquired from the safe upstairs from his pocket. On the front, it read:

Investigator Grimes dropped the paper. Horrified, his hands were shaking like that of a child after riding a roller coaster for the first time. He ran downstairs into the basement, and looked at himself in the mirror. He held up the piece of paper to it, with the writing facing the mirror. He was dumbstruck. In the reflection, the paper read the same. Slowly, he moved his right hand. Instead of the reflection’s left hand moving, its right hand did. He was not looking at a reflection. He was looking at himself. He began to step backward, and to his horror, the figure in the mirror did not do the same.
Investigator Grimes cried out, “What are you?!”
Suddenly, he had an idea: if the figure in the mirror was different from himself, then perhaps he could kill it. With haste, he grabbed the pistol from Mr. Blunt’s hand and pointed it at the figure.
“You are not me! I can kill you!” he screamed. “Die!”
Investigator Grimes aimed at the figure’s heart and pulled the trigger, the bullet racing out. It seemed to be victorious for Investigator Grimes when the bullet was traveling towards the mirror. However, when the bullet went into it, it came right back out. It’s target? Investigator Grimes’s heart. After he realized this and before he was hit, he knew how the couple had died: Mr. Blunt had shot himself in an attempt to kill the figure, and Mrs. Blunt’s figure lifted the pistol from the reflection of Mr. Blunt’s body and shot her. Investigator Grimes laughed silently at this, just before the bullet pierced his chest and went through his beating heart.
