Toribash

what do you see when you play toribash
like visualizing the turn and what your doing next or visualizing how the opponent is gonna hit u, what do you see in your head?

for me i feel like tugging sensations in my head or "rarely" seeing a full render of how the turn needs to look, i can also feel like raising my shoulders in game irl or a perceived hit on a specific spot on my real body and then i go from there

my example is biased towards boxshu but i think itd be cool to see everyones perspectives on this

I'm a tricker and when I make replays the main thing I am looking for are a set of specific positions with good form and the goal for me is to move fluidly and in a way that is aesthetically pleasing from one position to the next. I dont know if this is how everyone does it, but I choose to fixate on specific points rather than trying to visualise the entire flow of the replay; I find this allows for much more creativity and more variations on the tricks I'm able to land
i have one single playstyle:
I'll just say at the start I have no plans, no metas, no nothing, so I start basic, then:
>situation happens

>can I do this?
>I'll try anyway
>if succeed: great
>else: fuck
Can i get this decap? can I save myself after being lifted?
All that matters to me is I'm in a good position and the other guy is in a bad position. If this isn't happening then I just do whatever I can to put the things in their places
I just try random shit, like kicking, lifting etc. and trying to get out of bad places.

there really isnt much to visualize when ur playing boxshu

u just camp and wait for the other guy to launch to you and then u counterattack or you just run around the entire box until eventually the same thing happens

50 tf doesnt give you much room to work with and it makes close quarters fighting pure 50/50 every single time

there isnt a single incoming attack you can reliably defend from and counter because almost always you get put into a bad position and lose in the next turn anyway due to instagib/instant dq/50tf

if you're defending an attack and countering in a mod like boxshu then the opponent is terrible at the game

im not so much referring to context but the way u experience the game internally

the thing i was asking would be the how do u come up with the >can i do this<
how do you tell if u can get the decap or save yourself from being lifted, what are u experiencing while ur figuring that outdo you have some placebo sensation of your toris movements stuff like that

ohhhh well in that case what i said earlier could be how i experience playing comp

im probably the worst person to ask this question because i don't think when i play

i just obsess over how the replay looks in the end win or lose

having a playstyle thats entertaining for people to watch rather than the usual boring playstyle that everyone else has is enough for me ^_^

winning while playing that way just makes it that much better

sure i sacrifice all the toridollars playing the way i do but theres people out there who need it more than me

playing in a way that looks cool so that the noobs in the lobby would see what "high level" looks like and want to play more to learn how to move that way while beating ur opponents, thats all i ever cared about

so theres no sensations when your playing? youre just staring at ur screen and thinking in... words? you move manually and not automatically? theres no kinesthesia between ur tori and u?

thats the word for it, kinesthesia... the og post was meant to see how people experience kinesthesia in toribash if at all i just suck at explaining myself ;c

Talking about singleplayer, i usually just improvise a random thing and start just trying to get some good movement from there, and at some point i put like little metas, like i can do a Split, splitcaps, decap or some stuff that look a bit impressive to me.

At mp, i just try to survive most of the time, but sometimes i feel that thing you're talkin', it's like, trying to guess what's gonna do ur opponent next turn, and doing things to catch up his movements, thinking "i know he's gonna move like this cuz -whatever it's tori joints can make from it's position-" and feeling like you're making those movements cuz those worked. It's a bit like listening "eye of the Tiger" and wanting to fight even if u never had fight before
