I spent some time in lagalta in luxor egypt on the west bank of the nile and one thing I really enjoyed about the culture there was the community feeling and the aspect of connection and how peaceful it was. Due to the temps the men would wear long robes called jalabiya, I was wearing one every day it was incredibly comfortable. I remember one night sitting with the men from the village smoking shisha and watching some pirated movies on a tv in some public building and thinking how much more connected and communal it felt compared to back home and how in the UK, the closest thing we have to that is pub culture which is just basically profiting from alcoholism.
