Clan League 2018

It's finally here! sorry! Gather your clan mates, wake up the inactive and get ready for Clan League 2018!
Time is now for your clan to rise up and usurp the belt from Alpha.
Will the conquest of Alpha be over? Or will they reign victorious for another year?

Rules for participation are as follows:

•Anyone found to be in multiple rosters on alternate accounts will be punished. This includes being in several accounts in one roster
•Failure to organise matches will result in disqualification for both clans, unless one clan has been shown to be making more effort.*
•Reporting match scores should include the score clearly, a list of participants and all replays.

*Not including group phase*

This year we're doing a dual phase tournament, this means a group stage and a final stage.

Within your groups you will do a round robin, fighting each clan twice.
The top two clans per group will advance to the final stage, except for the two clans with the least points.
This brings 27 clans down to 16 for the final knockout stage.
The final stage will be a standard single elimination, with a reverse gradient seed (eg starting with 1st vs 16th, 2nd vs 15th, 3rd vs 14th and so on.)

The rules for the quarter finals phase are as follows:
  • A single player can play no more than 3 different modes.
  • A single player can play no more than 5 matches in total.
  • A single player can play no more than 3 matches per mod.
  • Deadline for the quarter finals will be October 7th.
  • 5 Different modes, 5 matches each round, best of 25 (or first to 13).

Modes:

Lenshu3ng.tbm
Taekkyon.tbm
judofrac.tbm
aikidobigdojo.tbm
boxshu_mushu_v3.tbm

Hello,

I think everyone is missing the point here. In this model, we have to fight each clan twice. We have two clans to fight. This is not a problem though. The real problem is that each player has to find 5-6 other players to fight! Sometimes only to play one match! Which is trivial. If the case was that player X of clan A will fight player Z of clan B in different mods. Then, things would be much easier. Since, you will have to meet up just twice. However, like that, it is too hard.

Hopefully. Something will be learned from this year.

Good luck.
Your messed up world enthrills me

Criticism toward myself, the event or the greater ES team is welcome here, but please don't call people names for disagreeing with you. Be civil or you will lose the opportunity to use this thread for the discussion. I'm serious, next person to do so will be met with infractions etc.

I'll acknowledge complaints properly then, but for most of you with complaints I hear you and your points are valid - thank you for feeling comfortable voicing them, as Scorp said we as ES should always be looking for constructive criticism

Sorry for the sloppiness of this post, it's probably not the post you wanted to to be - but for right this second I need to deal with my exploded washing machine

Declare it no contest and save yourself further embarrassment. Group stage ended 11 days ago. That's enough time to play one round (or finish some unfinished matches).

Unexpected IRL situations can happen, sure, but for an event of such importance a back-up go-to person should be put in place for exactly that reason. Otherwise it shows poor organization and management of ES team, with responsibility falling on current ES lead.

Since I decided to post, some additional c&c in bullet points below:
- group stage could have worked with one round of matches instead of two. As William mentioned, keeping track of who plays what turned out to be pretty messy.
- If you are dead set on making it 2 rounds in the future (would not advise that), then at least change how those matches work. Make clan A choose 6 mods for the first match and clan B another 6 mods for the second one (from preselected by you group of mods; mods can repeat in both matches). This way you get something closer to the ,,home" and ,,away" games, with a certain ,,advantage" of ,,home turf" for the clans.
- Speaking of mods, the choice of mods was pretty abysmal imo. I'd rather have mods that allow players to play prolonged fights, with a possibility of comebacks and turning the match around. Mods such as judo, lightninglenshu and messer_6 and boxshu_mushu fail in that regard - matches can end in 2 turns if your opener counters your opponent's or the win condition makes turning the match around almost impossible (instagib, instawin).

Boxshu_mushu does not fall in that category, you can simple extend both glutes and it'll allow you to jump backwards / to the side and forcing the opponent to chase you, but he won't be able to reach you for at least another 2 frames
