So after Euphoria's thread about permabans, I got to thinking. What if, instead of permabanning, we just muted offensive players temporarily or forever? That way they could still play, but not spread any vitriol. Is there some way to disable their ability to shout, emote, whisper, post on forums, and talk in the ingame chat? Like some kind of global mute button? Should there be?

There is one.

It doesn't stop the ones that really want to be assholes from being assholes.

Kind of along the same lines, but I’ve seen some seriously racist/offensive usernames get banned multiple times. How are they even popping back up again? Surely they’re not just slipping onto alts and renaming after a few years?

for example a username that was banned on Nov 14, 2025 by sneaky... I’m pretty sure I saw that name not long ago, and there’s no way that word should even be able to slip through the game’s filters, right?

When people want to find ways to make offensive names, they spend the time to do so. We filtered out the ones we thought of when we went over it a while ago.

I don't know if our filter would just see the word inside another, and we'd end up blocking "basement" if we put a filter on "semen" because it saw the filtered word inside the name, or "basement" would be fine even if we did filter "semen" because it only reads the individual word instead of its contents.

Something to figure out if tb gets another dev.
