It's by no means easy, I can tell you that. The longest time my fortresses survived was a few months. It ended by me accidentally crushing all but one, who decided that fighting a Forgotten Beast is a good idea...

You require more cage traps.
Also, if the Forgotten Beast is made of metal or some sort of rock/gemstone, don't even bother sending your army after it. Kill it with traps or catch it with aforementioned cage traps.

Actually, goblins attacked, killing all but one dwarf, and before I could begin making mechanisms, the Forgotten Beast attacked. It'll still be there, though, once I reclaim it or send an adventurer. And it's made of thin air, it would seem. I didn't even have much of an army, I couldn't find any metals...

The dwarf that survived managed to kill the goblins. His name... Reg Regreg. If I'm correctly remembering this, "reg" translates to "glove"...

Happened four times in one fortress last year. Yet another fortress destroyed... Hopefully that will be fixed in the next version, but I thought it was supposed to be fixed in the latest version. Wonder what's going on.
