Tutorial: Flame trails
PS! Flames can only be seen if you have Toribash version 3.7 or above.




What are flames?

Flames are a new addition to the game, it was introduced on march (?). Basically it is texturable different colored fire coming out of your bodyparts. Currently only hand flames are possible to purchase, although some head flames are also being sold on the market and I think I've seen some leg ones ingame.

How to get flames? (So everybody could see them)

1) Buy the promos. You get a number of flames + item packs along with the TC/booster you're buying. This is as of may 2009 so the next promos may not include flames. All you need to do is activate them in your inventory. If you get the promo items but not the flames, give it a week. This takes time.

2) Buy the flames from another person under the Market subforum. People have shops now, the price ranges from about 50k to 200k or even 500k. Go have a look, they prices might be changing quickly.

3) Buy a flame forge booster. This costs 25 USD and works for a month. After buying this, you have to press ctrl + alt + shift + i ingame. This will bring up a forge menu which looks something like this (click).. Mess around with the values, choose a name for your flame and press forge. You will then be told how much TC you need to pay to forge the flame (Yes, you have to buy the flame forger AND pay TC to forge your own flames).

What is the difference between "flame" and "flame particle (texture)"?

- Flame is the actual flame. You need to have this, look above to see how. You can only have this and everything will be fine - you don't need the texture.

- Flame particle texture is exactly what it says. A texture. It costs 10k on torishop (sold out atm) and you need the "flame" for this to work. All this does is allows you to apply textures to your flame - for example mine has little hearts on it.

How to get flames in item.dat? (So only I can see them)

You can do this by editing the item.dat file.

1) Go to your toribash\custom folder (c:\games\toribash-3.72\custom or similar by default).
2) Locate a folder with your name in it. Make a copy of it, and rename it to "testflame".
3) Go to your "testname" folder and open the item.dat with notepad.
4) You will see a line starting with "FLAME0" at the end of the file. Replace it with this:

5) Save your item.dat, go ingame and type /lp 0 testflame . If everything went right, your hand should now have an inferno flame.

How to modify the flames in item.dat?

Again, this is just for you - nobody else can see this. You're supposed to change the values of the numbers in FLAME0. Here is what each number does, so for example if you wish to change the flames colors, you have to change number 7, 8 and 9. This is a quote from Treacles thread.

PS:

The 10k tc "flame particle" is not a flame! It will not make you have flames! It's just a texture! If you just bought this and don't have the actual flame, you have wasted your 10 000 TC.

By editing the item.dat , only you will see the flames! Not everybody else!

The flames do not give you any special abilities! It is just for looks!

You can also see flames if you do not have shaders on. They will look the same.

To turn off flames ingame (so you don't see them), type /opt partices 0 in the chatbox.

To test around with flames, press ctrl+alt+shift+i ingame. Even if you don't have the flame forger, you can preview flames. But you wont be able to forge them.
